I’m going to buy a new vehicle next year and I’d like one of those remote ignition sytems so I can turn on the truck from inside my house and have it warm (or cool) when I get in it. I want to buy a diesel, however, and I wonder if there are any remote ignition systems available. When I turn on my current diesel truck I have to wait a few seconds for the glow plugs to warm up. Can remote ignitions wait for the glow plugs to warm up before starting the engine?

I had one of these for my Grand Prix (gas engine) 2 years ago. I remember reading the manual and saying that you can program a delay (5, 15, 30 seconds) until the starter cranks. Also you can programs the length of the crank (3, 5, 7 seconds) for your engine also depending on the weather conditions and the condition of the engine itself. Cheers
I had a look at the website. That’s very good news indeed. I know remote ignition keys are available here in Korea so I’m sure they would have a model for diesel engines. The delayed crank option is great for me since I live up north.
“Ignition” is not the right word though. Diesels have no ignition.
Well, no electrically based spark ignition as gasoline engines do. They have compression ignition, which is purely mechanical and not in any way related to the so-called “ignition” switch. “Remote starting system” is a more accurate and appropriate term.
Thanks for clearing up the term ‘ignition’ for me. Although it’s not really an ignition system I’ll still probably say, “put the keys in the ignition.” Just habit.
Thanks for everyone’s help.
