I didn’t notice some dye had splashed onto my new white vanity and tub and now I have a number of black stains that haunt me daily.
I’m not sure what exact material it is, but the surface seems cold, hard and smooth like marble. I don’t want to damage it with harsh cleansers or sandpaper, but I would like to lift the stains.
Some of it is on vertical surfaces, so the solution must either work quickly or I have to be able to keep it on the surface.
I’m considering using either bleach or hydrogen peroxide right now…
Could be mother-of-pearl, could be marble (clue: it has veining) or some composite…although a composite would resist staining.
Marble gets stained, and develops a ‘patina’ of sorts. It is tough to get stuff ‘out’ once it gets ‘in’. Marble should be sealed with a special sealant if you wish to retain the original look.
Most buffers, scrubbers, etc won’t do the trick. You could try alcohol, because many dies will break down when hit with it (esp hair dye). I don’t think you can hurt anything with chlorine bleach (or mild bleach such as peroxide).
Acetone (nail polish remover) or mineral spirits are worth shots, too.
Again, a stone material won’t give a hoot unless you use some really strong acid, and you can always test the infamous ‘inconspicuous area’ first. Bleaches are alkalines.
Some materials can be sanded with success, but you should consult a person who deals with the product you believe you have.
