Removing rear speaker, '01 Camry

The back-right speaker in my parents 2001 Camry has a wire which has come detached, so it doesn’t work. This doesn’t bother them, since they never listen to music in it, but since I’m driving it for the next couple weeks (sprained my ankle and my car is manual), I would like to take care of this. If I can get the speaker out, I can solder the wire back on, and everything will be good to go. So, I was hoping someone would know how to remove it, or have a link to something describing or showing how to do it.

I don’t have any expert knowledge as far as removing speakers, but the first question I would ask is, are you sure the wire is disconnected at the speaker end? It could be disconnected behind the dashboard, or in any number of wiring harnesses going through the body of the car between the radio and the speaker.

Assuming the speaker is mounted on the parcel shelf behind the back seat, wiring to the speaker should be visible from the trunk.

bump and responses:

Fat Bald Guy, yes I’m sure the wire is disconnected at the speaker end, since I can see it hanging free in the trunk. Of course, there might be more than one disconnect, but I’m not gonna worry about that just yet.

Danceswithcats, it is visible from the trunk but at such an angle that I’d have to lay on my back and use a mirror to see what I’m doing. I don’t trust my soldering skills that much.

Generally auto speaker wires use push on spade type connectors for connector to the speaker +/- contacts. If the wire still has the connector try flattening the “gate” of the female connector just a little bit with some pliers for a tighter fit and push it back on. If the wire is bare ended you can strip it back a bit and use a crimp on spade connector available at Radio Shack & automotive stores.
