I am really really considering joining this website http://www.netflix.com Does anyone else use netflix? It sounds almost to good to be true. No shipping charge? Pre-paid return envelopes? I for one can almost gaurantee that it would be worth 20$ a month. It might also cut down on the number of DVDs I purchase. Opinions please?
I’m a member there and I’m pretty satisfied. The only drawback is that I live on the East Coast and Netflix is in San Jose, so it can take 4-5 days for the DVD’s to make the trip in each direction. But it’s still worth it for me, especially when you factor in (a) the convenience of having the DVD’s delivered to me, and (b) the selection, which is much better than any of the local video stores.
I love the service. I am in the Marquee program. I pay $35 a month, and get to keep eight movies at a time. You get to keep them for as long as you want. I think that I have had ‘Army of Darkness’ for about a month now.
There is a word of caution however. I don’t know if because I am part of the Marquee club I get lower priority, but it is a long wait for new releases. Don’t expect to see a new release until about a month after it’s release. I just got ‘Girlfight’ and I don’t know how long it has been out. Also where you live would make a big difference. I live in LA, so it only takes 2-3 days for me to receive a dvd.
I’ve used netflix for 2 months now, and have been extremely satisfied. Sometimes, If you time it right with your returns, you can even get new releases the day that they come out.
The greatest thing about the service for me is no late fees. I’m notorious for falling asleep during the movie and having to keep it an extra day, so with this service, it works out great for me.
I’ve used them since the end of '99, and have had no complaints. They’ve got a great selection of older/more obscure titles that your local Blockwood or Hollybuster are simply not going to have. Also, yup, new releases are often out of stock for good chunks of time.
Great selection, very convenient, you can build up an arbitrarily-long queue of films to rent (and rearrange same as you like), and they’ll automatically come to you. No more getting to a store that, even if they did have what you were looking for, you’ve forgotten what it was. And the no late-fee thing is a lifesaver.
Just in case anybody from the UK looks at this thread, I’ve used http://www.dvdoptions.com for several months, and it’s great! No membership fee, rental is £2.99 for 7 days, pre-paid return mailers, and if you want to keep it the rental price is deducted from the purchase price. I place an order on Wednesday and the DVDs are there by Friday.
I have been using NetFlix for about 8 months now and I am very happy with the service.
The only problems with me are the fact that I too am a east coast dweller and also I sometimes forget to mail back the movies after I have watched them. I don’t get a late fee but it does slow down me getting new movies.
Also the service has let me watch some movies that I considered buying but chose not to purchase.
And of course the big plus is you can rent stuff that you may be shy to do so at the local blockbuster. Like recently I rented ‘1941’ which is a terrible movie but I like anyway but I don’t want people to know about that so just forget you read this last paragraph.
