My daughter broke this curved lens that covers the headlight bulb on the 1994 Crown Vic her grandparents are letting her use. She has ordered a new light cover assembly for 100 from the dealer. Install is being quoted as 60.00 Is this something I can do with hand tools? Right side lens of it matters.
I don’t know about Crown Vics, but I removed the headlight assembly on my 94 Thunderbird. It seems like I just had to remove two or three bolts and pull it out. You may have to adjust where the headlight points though with a new assembly.
Should be easy, if tedious. Be careful of sharp edges on sheetmetal (gloves if feasible). You will also need to ensure that the headlight is level and straight; it may come with pre-installed level sights. If not, the tried-n-true adjustment against a reasonably flat, level surface will work. Try a garage door, or an interior garage wall.
100 bucks? Wow, that’s cheap. I had to buy one, and it was $325! Really made we long for the old glass headlights.
In this case it’s just the plastic lens cover she fractured not the entire lamp assemby.
It’s a turn signal/parking light lens, not a headlight lens. Typically it would be held in with one or two screws and one or more tabs that fit into slots. In some cars, the tabs are a snug fit into the slots and can be stubborn about being withdrawn. Other than that it should be quite simple and easy.
Use the new lens as a guide to make sure you’ve found all the screws and know what direction to pull on the old one to get it out. Since it’s already broken, you have the luxury of not having to be too delicate in your attempt. The socket for the bulb typically needs to be rotated 1/8 turn then pulled out of the lens.
