Reporting live from the 'Yes' concert...

I’m your Intrepid Reporter, BunnyGirl. I’m reporting [sub]kind of[/sub] live from the scene of the Yes Symphonic concert, held on August 12th at Pine Knob (now known as DTE Energy Music Theatre) in Clarkston, MI. The night was perfect for a good concert: 73 degrees and clear skies. The band is traveling with a 30-piece symphony orchestra and if a symphony can make Metallica sound good, think of what they can do for our band tonight!

Before I begin my report, let’s head over to Fashion Reporter BunnyGirl. What do you have for us, Bunny?

Well, IR Bunny, there appears to be a lot of tie-dyed shirts in the crowd tonight, along with investment bankers in expensive loafers and khaki shorts. We do have a bold fashion statement in the crowd and that would be the ‘Got Milk’ Woman. This lovely lady presented herself in a daring low-cut fuchsia t-shirt that brazenly exposed her abundant cleavage. Really, we haven’t seen cleavage like this since Dolly Parton bent over in her tank top and it prompted FR Bunny’s friend Rose to say, “Got milk?” We giggled and snorted over that one all night. Girlfriend could’ve kept the contents of her purse, not just her pin money, in that bosom. To quote a male audience member (that I’m completely making up), “Whatta rack!” Truly a sight to behold. What’s more, she was smooching on one guy she was with and then later in the evening, was smooching on the other guy that escorted her. Both Rose and I figured she owned the one, but was leasing the other. Go girl! Keep your options open. In more fashion news, John Anderson appeared to be channeling Bea Arthur, in his long flowing pants, loose shirt and vest. Chris Squire was lost in the 80’s in spandex pants, but kudos to Steve Howe for the bold move against comb-overs! Back to you, IR Bunny.

Thanks FR Bunny. Well, not being a Yes fan myself, I wasn’t sure of what to expect and I was not disappointed. Sitting in the pavilion, waiting for the show to start, I was almost put to sleep by the ambient music that was playing. Both Rose and I stated that this did not bode well for the two of us. We came to this concert not under duress, per se, but more under marital obligation. Both of our husbands are rabid Yes fans, so we were doing the wifely duty tonight by attending. Rose and I both stated that they owed us. Big time.

Truly, there’s not much to tell. The band played. It was technically excellent, musically acute and well performed, but Rose and I only recognized 4 songs. They played for close to 3 hours. For the bass players in the house, Chris Squire played a white Rickenbacher (sp?) and a lavendery-grey Fender Precision bass. Steve Howe played a lute, a steel guitar, and a Gibson hollow-body, among others.

This is Intrepid Reporter BunnyGirl signing off.

Yes is coming to DC later this month, and after seeing them (for the fourth time) last summer, I decided I don’t need to see them again. It is weird, too, being one of the younger members of the audience at the Yes shows.

Then, they announced the “Symphonic” tour, and I was intrigued. But, I have a wedding to save up for, so I’m not going.

BTW, the lead singer is Jon Anderson, not John Anderson. He’s a country singer.

Prog on!

Ooops, my bad. “Jon”, then.

Yeah, Montfort if you saw them last summer, I’d really think that you’ve seen the same thing. The symphony was nice, but…eh, you know, not that nice.

I gave my husband 2 tickets to see them for his birthday in '98 and I’m glad I told him to take a friend then.

I hate you.

[sub]So, are they planning a Euro tour too??[/sub]

I’ve never dated a Yes fan, and I’ve never understood how it is that all the women I meet (and all the women my friends meet) don’t seem to be into Yes. My friend Rich got married a couple years ago and his wife, Mary, bless her heart, is immensely tolerant of his Yes fanaticism, though she can’t stand them, herself. She accompanied him to a Yes concert once, but that’s it.

That’s okay. Rich and I will go to Yes shows together and faint and gibber as they play our favorites, and wonder who these women are at the concert and what kind of rare woman likes Yes, and why it is that we’ve never been able to meet one.

If you’re at a Yes concert for three hours, that’s about long enough for them to play four songs, if they cut them short.

You’re in luck,Coldie. They’ll be in Amsterdam on the 21st and 22nd of November at Heineken Hall. Check out their European dates here.

Yes? I love bands!

I love you, BunnyGirl!

:open_mouth:  [sub]I’ve been noticed…by a MOD![/sub]

For the record also, I had backstage passes when they came to Great Woods in Massachusetts on the ABWH tour a few years ago. All of the band members were the nicest people you would ever want to meet.

Chance the Gardner, I’m female and have been a rabid Yes fan for years!

Heck, I even bought the game Homeworld just because of the Yes music. Didn’t know it was only for the credits when I bought it though. I ended up liking the game, so no big loss. And, if I really want to hear the song “Homeworld” I can just listen to “The Ladder”.

I’ll be at the show this Wednesday (8/15) in Milwaukee!

Euty, I am SOOOOOOO jealous!!!

I’ve met most of the members of Yes. In '91, I met Anderson and White. Then, I met Howe in '96 and Bill Bruford in '99. I got Anderson and Howe to sign my LP of Close to the Edge, and completely forgot about it when I met Bruford. D’oh!

But, this summer, I met Roger Dean at NEARfest in Pennsylvania, and got him to sign it, too.
