Just ran across this article, which describes the migrants leaving Martha’s Vineyard heading to a National Guard facility.
The families were being taken to the island’s Steamship Authority Vineyard Haven terminal, where they left for Joint Base Cape Cod, a Massachusetts National Guard facility, attorneys said. The base is about 60 miles from both Boston and Providence, Rhode Island.
…
From there, Garcia said attorneys and state officials would arrange to help them find accommodations in Massachusetts or out of state.
… Many of them say they are headed to Florida cities including Miami, Garcia said, where they have friends or family.
Trying to make a point about migrants by referencing a drug that typically enters the country in vehicles at official border crossings is a fail. The two are largely unrelated.
There’s also the disingenuous of equating the situations at all. Abbott shipped these people across the country and dumped them off on the streets. Lightfoot and/or Pritzger sent them to a hotel, where they would actually have a place to stay.
It’s as disingenuous as comparing a knife wielding murderer with a surgeon, because they both cut people.
Where relief groups put these people up for the first few days was largely a matter of what spaces they could find with zero advance notice, because the kidnappers didn’t give anyone in the destination cities any advance notice that this was going to happen. That’s likely very different from the places they’ll eventually end up once there’s time to make plans for them.
Huh? Why are you referring to a disbunked conspiracy theory? Desantis actually did fly a bunch of immigrants to Martha’s vineyard. He’s even bragged about it publicly.
Do any of them believe the bullshit that they spew? And the fact that they actually do something that they attempt to demonize Biden with just again highlights their hypocrisy and lack of the gene that makes peopke feel shame.
Playing advocate for a moment that the “theory” is true, and given who believe it to be true, it may as well be for political purposes…
The difference is that Biden flew those secret flights in order to help people, DeSantis’s actions were intended to hurt people, and hurting people is a sure way to get Republican votes.
This is, of course, a complete fabrication not grounded anywhere in reality.
It rests on the assumption that liberals enable and encourage smuggling, which is demonstrably false. The smuggling industry exists because there is money to be made in it. The reason it’s so lucrative is because it’s so difficult, and the reason it’s so difficult is because America’s absurd immigration laws make it needlessly difficult. Why is so difficult? Because conservatives wish it to be so, and block liberal reform at every turn.
This of course means that the deaths and rapes and suffering are enabled and encouraged by conservatives, and the reason they do that is because they absolutely relish and celebrate it. They are not disturbed by it, they do not want it to end, and they would love to see even more of it. To conservatives, these people’s lives are merely an opportunity to mug for the spotlight and crow about how they’re abusing brown foreigners and owning the libs, and it’s absolutely disgusting.
I do wonder if this is going to backfire on him at all.
It’s not that he spent lots of taxpayer money trying to hurt people, it’s that he spent lots of taxpayers money and failed to hurt any of people he was trying to hurt.
Maybe in Republican circles it’s the thought that counts, but hate only gets you so far if you can’t show results.
Living in Texas, the ONLY people we hear about the “border crisis” from are the state and national level Republican politicians.
From what I can gather, they’re calling the status quo at the border a “crisis” because they don’t like illegal immigrants and I’d bet if you pressed them, they’d say the crisis has been going on for decades.
The only things that are remotely new are the migrant caravans from elsewhere that wind their way through Mexico on their way here- that started relatively recently, but AFAIK hasn’t happened in the last several years. The other one was that during the pandemic, more Mexicans went back to Mexico than the other way around, due to bad economic conditions.
It’s totally a manufactured crisis. Things aren’t any different than they’ve ever been in the last few decades, but the GOP is taking the approach that one illegal immigrant is too many, so however many we have sneaking across now is a de-facto crisis. Which is absurd- it’s a case of moving the field and then saying “Look! They’re on our goal line” when neither team actually moved.
He’s hurt “the libs.” They’re beside themselves with rage over his clever exposure of their hypocrisy. That’s the messaging, and it’ll be worth every penny.
The migrants, as ever, don’t matter to conservatives except as pawns and symbols.
In one case documented by National Public Radio in 2020, Lela Mae Williams, a Black mother from Arkansas, took her nine children on a three-day bus ride from Arkansas to Hyannis, Mass., after being promised a job, housing, and that she would be welcomed by members of the Kennedy family which has a compound in the area.
You can imagine how it turned out — not just for her, but also for other African American families who were similarly duped. They wound up strangers in a strange land, just like the migrants who were left outside the Naval Observatory where Harris resides or on the Vineyard where former Pres. Barack Obama bought a home in 2019.
It doesn’t even matter much to conservatives that no liberals were actually hurt or even much inconvenienced by this stunt. The reality is irrelevant. The fiction is all conservative voters need to cackle to themselves about how the libs are sputtering in impotent outrage over this clever dose of their own medicine.
