Republican National Convention thread

How long until someone uses that blue screen to place John McCain in the middle of a porno or some other offensive and extremely embarassing situation? I mean, come on, someone’s probably trying to post it online as I type this.

The good news is that they aren’t blaming the DFH for losing the war in Iraq. The bad news is that they are claiming to have won the war in Iraq. Barrack was going to surrender, but McCain and Lieberman stopped them, and now we need no longer fear that Al Queda will take over Iraq. Victory!

And the camera panned the faces and, yes, they bought it.

Do I know you?

I’ve said plenty of nice things about McCain before. I respect him and have said on this board that I would have voted for him over Kerry in 2004. You can do a board search on my name with “McCain” and find out for yourself. It was not an insincere statement on my part that I wanted him to have a good night.

I’m surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention here. It seemed like exploiting 9/11 for political gain was off limits for a while. I guess this isn’t the case any more. A gut wrenching video of the destruction capped off by the empty promise that we (i.e. the Republicans) will never let it happen again, followed by the crowd hooting and hollering like Lynard Skynard just finished fucking Freebird or something. Unbelievable.

… well, we all said the green screen was foolish.

Epic. Just… epic, man. I mean, perfect!

Absolutely brilliant!

I think the first exploitation of 9/11 came when Bush gave a speech on the rubble, and continued on after that. So it’s been happening for a while.

You know, for years now I’ve been hearing people say: “you may not care much for Bush, but I’m sure glad he was in the White House than Gore on 9/11!” Setting aside the fact that he wasn’t anywhere near D.C. on 9/11, I’ve always wondered why. Cheney was in charge during the actual crisis itself, and did badly enough that Rumsfeld had to override him to an extent. Bush stood on a pile of rubble, looked grave and sorrowful, and gave a speech. After investigation, it was decided to invade Afghanistan, which I think is a decision that just about any President would have made, although it’s possible we might have pressured the Afghani and Pakistani governments to give up bin Laden first. Less that two years later, Bush diverted well over half our fighting force to Iraq, and we still don’t have bin Laden. He’s implented very few of the 9/11 commissions recommendations for improving safety, and many if not most of the measures taken to improve our security are a joke.

Why are (or at least were) people glad it was he who was in office on 9/11?

Maybe this should be in a different thread?
