Democratic convention 2008 discussion thread

I don’t see a thread open for discussing the convention.

Tonight, I’m looking forward to seeing Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter. Wait, it’s not 1980!

Watching a very happy flashback on C-Span now. Ann Richards keynote speech in 1988. “He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

I think Michelle Obama is going to rock, I wish I was there to see her speak.

Is it wrong that I’m most interested tonight to hear Lisa Madigan speak? I’m sure it’ll be two minutes of stock remarks, but still…

Maybe I should put this in the Focus on the Family Pit thread, but the forecast for Obama’s Thusday acceptance speech is sunny and clear, 86 degrees, 0% chance for rain.

John Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are scheduled to bracket the speech with acoustic sets.

I could do without the praying.

Interesting convention so far. Nancy Pelosi may be the smartest woman in politics.

I think they should have limited how many times each speaker could use the word “Change.”

I wonder if we’ll hear “Born in the USA!”

One thing I’ve noticed, I don’t see any Obama/Biden signs at the convention. Any reason why not?

I watched Ann Richards from 1988 earlier today. There were Dukakis signs as well as Jesse Jackson signs in the audience.

Will the official Obama/Biden signs only be brought out after the nomination?

I’ve seen some handmade ones – on C-Span they focused on a woman with a “Florida for Obama” sign.

Yay, Lisa’s on!

I don’t see any official ones though. Sure, there are handmade ones. But, I don’t see the thousands of Obama/Biden signs yet. I guess they’re waiting for Thursday.

I see Hillary clips form earlier today where she is ‘denouncing PUMA and others seeking to divide the party…’

cool.

Well, that was predictable. Of course Hillary is going to do that. She has to.

Hell, I just talked to someone that was going to vote for McCain because of “how women were treated”. “You know Hillary throws her full support behind Obama, right?”
…“I don’t feel like talking about this right now.”

Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. is a very impressive speaker.

I liked his sister a lot. I wonder if seeing Jesse Jackson Jr will just remind people of what his dad said about Obama.

Ok, I’m now seeing some official Barack signs. Change We Can Believe In.

It would make a nice drinking game.
Mrs. Plant is watching in the living room, I am listening to Cassandra Wilson on a PC back towards the kitchen.

Does it seem like there are teleprompter problems? Pelosi seemed to be stumbling through, as if the scrollers were off time, and the rest seem not to have a prompter to their left. Has anyone noticed that or is it just me?

I don’t know, but you’d think that even without teleprompters, Nancy D’Alessandro Pelosi would still have in her blood somewhere the ability to give a decent political speech.

Geez, but she was terrible.

Was the water imagery really a good way to start of the Ted Kennedy tribute?

Showing Teddy on the water is a bad idea. It invites tasteless jokes and distracts from the sentiment.
