I’d say it makes a lot of sense. It was the first major appearance of a relatively unknown quantity, one of whose demographics is a still somewhat of a novelty in Presidential politics. Add that to the folks already enthusiastic about her for her political views, and you have a ratings winner. (Not to mention anyone who was bored of Obama and/or McCain already. :))
Edit: Quantity was actually more important (to the second sentence) than quality! Imagine that!
I’m sorry. I can understand why a rabid Obama supporter might be extra terrified of a “little girl” today. Your stuttering, jug-eared doofus candidate with zero experience and absolutely no accomplishments, and an appalling lack of judgement when it comes to choosing friends and/or associates (Rezko, Wright, Ayers), received a smack-down for the ages last night.
“Barack Obama forcefully defended his work as a community organizer against criticism from Republicans, particularly vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.”
“The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week.”
And, of course, since this IS CBS News I’m fairly sure you can add at least 6 or 7 points to McCain’s numbers.
He didn’t so much as mention Palin or McCain. He listed the things that the Democrats have talked about that the Republicans haven’t in their convention. How is that running scared or even striking back?
Or am I seeing the wrong clip? This one is from York, PA, and it’s 1:58 in length.

Yeah! Seriously! Those Republicans are SO not elitist at all. Definitely not. No, sir. Oh, wait. . .Cindy’s outfit for the night cost more than most folks’ homes.

Gotta say, though, without the jewels, I love the dress. Not the color so much, but the cut.
Three cheers for Republican smear tactics! I wouldn’t expect it to last once the Reps get away from a choreographed convention and they let reporters at Palin for once.
So let’s recap: Biden blew it with his initial vote in support of the war, and Obama was absolutely wrong to oppose the surge. Yep, this certainly is a pair of foreign policy brainiacs, huh?
Meanwhile, McCain supported the war, parroted the Bush talking points about how quick and painless it would be. And Palin she, um, she…her thoughts on the war were, ummm…well regarding the surge she was, hmmm…She read about it in the paper, she said, so she’s got that going for her…
