Republicans, are you still unwilling to compromise?

We’ve all heard about how this was a perfect environment for Obama and the Dems to lose, and lose big. Everything from the economy, to the heavy partisanship, to all of the big government overreaches that has happened in the past 4 years, not to mention the attacks on Unions, the rise of the Tea Party, the 2010 Midterms, etc. made 2012 the perfect opportunity for the GOP to win the White House and Senate.

But of course, that’s not what happened. Dems retained control of presidency, and gained in the Senate and House. Now there is talk of compromise but I don’t believe it, not just yet. 4-5 years of constant Fox News barrage has left me bitter and cynical, unconvinced that by the time Obama and the newly elected Dems take office in January, we won’t be back in the same old boat, reach to eviscerate each other.

That brings me to right now. We’re still only a few days after the election. Democrats are glowing, Republicans are crying, and for the first time in a long time, some of the GOP are openly questioning the electability of their policies. So before that honeymoon is over, I’d like to see if any conservatives and Republicans here have any, even the tiniest smidgen of self-doubt right now about the possibility of a long line of Democratic presidents. As a Republican, I pose the following questions to you on what you’re willing to concede, if any, in order to remain electable. Just like in real life, there is no promise or guarantee of success, only improved odds based on what the electorate wants.

As a conservative/Republican, in order to maintain viable national candidates for presidency, are you willing to…

  1. …give up complete opposition to immigration reform and allow a pathway to citizenship?

  2. …stop using hateful and divisive language, even if you believe it, like calling immigrants “illegals” or poor people “entitled”?

  3. …maybe not support gay marriage, but simply stop trying to use it as an issue?

  4. …accept that even if Americans are evenly split on abortion, that there will always be a large majority in support of abortion in cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother and support that as part of your platform?

  5. …renounce birtherism, accept that Obama is a Christian American, born in America, and that the attacks on his heritage has all been lies you hoped the American people would believe?

  6. …raise taxes of the wealthy if it is the only way to keep taxes on the poor and middle class even or lower than it is now?

  7. …accept climate science that global warming is real?

  8. …accept that evolution is science and should be taught in schools, while intelligent design is not science and should not be taught in schools?

  9. …acknowledge that contraception should be made freely available to men and women?

  10. …accept that most people like and want Obamacare, and stop trying to defund or repeal it?

  11. …acknowledge that conservative pollsters are generally wrong, and that the “Mainstream Media” is generally not biased, and correctly called the election?

In one way or another, most of these topics were touched upon in this election, some more than others. You can say that perhaps Obama, or the Senators, or the Representatives won due to different factors, or a combination of other factors, and refuse to make even a little concession, or you can take in the reality, so close after Election Day while your minds haven’t yet been pulled into the gravity of whatever spin Fox News is likely going to churn out in the next few weeks or months, that what you are feeling right now is the god’s honest truth, that all your preconceived notions have now been washed away, and before something new takes root, your minds are more open now than they’ve been in a long time, and accept some new facts into your life. Real facts, not Fox News spin. Are any of you brave enough to admit any culpability at all for the mistakes you’ve supported?
