Republicans; do you really believe Geo. Bush is in charge?

I suspect most feel that 2000 proved grades are a useless issue, and the public doesn’t care enough to change their opinions, only reinforce pre-existing opinions.

We know how he got into grad school.

His family name.

Certainly not on his own merits.

The question was “Republicans; …” Why so much noise and interference from the liberal, far left and socialist

Well CoatOFArms, I, for one, have been convinced by the Democrazies of this board that Bush is Boob. They even showed me his report card. Maybe Bush has aways been Boob. But he is good Boob.

But when I was eight years old I got bad grades on my report card too,
so I guess I’ll go ahead and vote for Bush.

My bad.

Were Bush 8 when he got those grades I’d dismiss them too.

But he wasn’t. He was an adult.

You what would be fun? What would be fun would be to find out that John Kerry’s grades and SATs were no better than, or worse than, Bush’s. Because then the people in this forum who trash Bush for his grades will do flips and twists to spin the whole issue away.

Anyone want to speculate why Kerry would have gone to Boston College for a law degree? Why not Harvard Law? Or Yale?

Of course, if Bush had gone to a midlevel college like Boston College, you guys would be all over him for his ‘substandard’ education. Just like the left dismissed Reagan’s degree in economics because it was from Eureka. But we all know how this game works - when a Democrat has good SATs, it’s a sign that they are great leaders. When they get bad SATs (like Bill Bradley did), then it’s irrelevant. Of course, when Republicans have mediocre SATs it’s a sign that they are incompetent. When Democrats go to good schools like Yale, it’s a sign of their brilliance. When Republicans do, it means that daddy pulled strings and they are elitists.

I didn’t know Bush was a history major, so I’ve learned something new today. It doesn’t have any effect on my opinion of GWB, though.

When I alude to the voices in my head, people look at me askance. Bush gives the voices in his head a name, “God,” and people nod their heads and look all serious and shit. As an historian, doesn’t he realize the incredible amount of grief and woe that has been generated by people who were positive they were deputized by God? Osama Bin Laden, and the good folk who brought us the Taliban come to mind.

I think I could accept everything about Bush, along with most of the stuff he has pulled if it weren’t for his apparent conviction that God and he have an understanding. That is the thing about the man that scares me the most.

No Matter,** Reeder**, Democrat, if school grades elected Presidents then soon we would become a nation of nerds.

Besides, as pointed out by** coatOFArms**, the opening question of this thread is directed to Republicans.

Maybe for just this once you and the other wordy Democrats who so far have dominated this thread could honor the wishes of the OP and let the Republicans answer the question that they have been asked.

Or…
Go start your own thread.

I am not a democrat thanyouverymuch.
Very much an independent…or as we are called here…unaffliliated.

It’s already been noted that one has to go back to college days to find anything in Bush’s record to be impressed by. Your doing so, well, isn’t “flips and twists”, it’s just sad. We know what kind of President he has made, and that’s what we down here will be basing our decisions upon, not his frickin’ grades.

Sure. If you had any clue how politics works in MA, you’d know that the “wired” school is BC. The most wired pols of all, in fact, are the “Triple Eagles” - diplomas from BCHS, BC, and BC Law. Someone with plans for a career in MA politics, or national politics with a grounding in MA, would consider BC a *first * choice. The Ivies are generally for wiring into the corporate or private-practice law fields, not elective public service, although you’ll find Washington full of Ivy lawyers in the bureaucracies and staffs.

Oops, looks like I wasted my time. You already “know” the answer and just want to flame, don’t you?

etc. ad nauseam. As already noted. Got a good example of that for us, or was that just more of the usual “My religious belief system requires this to be true, therefore it is true, and who needs facts?”

Not that it’s all that relevant for considering Kerry’s qualifications for a public sector job, but you might actually consider the possibility of inconvenient facts existing on that point, too. johnkerry.com:(A)s a lawyer in private practice he worked long and hard to prove the innocence of a man wrongly given a life sentence for a murder he did not commit.

I trust you don’t really want us to consider Bush’s private-sector performance, do you?

Tell us, are you really trying to *convince * anyone of anything here?

You sure are blowing a fuse over this. And the guy isn’t even your president!

Why are you focusing on SATs? Who here has focused on SATs? If Bush is such a smart guy, why did he do so badly in school (I consider a C average “bad”, sorry). Was he bored? Was he lazy? Maybe he should have found another major, like astronomy.

The fact that Bush’s grades sucked is clear, but I don’t think that necessarily means he’s dumb. My judgement is based on current events, the way the guy presents himself in front of the camera, and the way he constantly defers to his army of advisors when someone calls him to the carpet. Dems aren’t imagining that Bush’s vice president has an unusual amount of power and say-so. That alone gives Bush the appearance of weakness.

We can argue all day and night about whether Bush is truly incompetent. What is undeniable is how incompetent Bush appears in many circumstances…much more so than previous presidents.

Does appearance matter? Yes. If it didn’t, gems like this wouldn’t exist. (Just like at the picture in that link. Doesn’t it make you laugh a little?) Why shouldn’t we want a president who makes Americans look smart, and isn’t the target of urban legends (assuming that is one)?

As far as I can tell, Kerry doesn’t seem stupid. I don’t see any Palm Beach-like* sketches in his future. As for Bush…I wish I could say the same. I still have that last press conference echoing in my head.

*hilarious SNL sketch featuring Val Kilmer as Jeb Bush and Will Ferrell as a child-like Dubya.

Because, as usual, the Republicans are spreading bullshit and nonsense, and it’s up to everyone else – such as the liberal, far left, and socialists – to correct them.

I take it that you went to Harvard and Yale, as a conservative, and graduated too! Give us some slack. In addition, are you a Republican answering this OP … *Republicans; … * ?

I think it is understood that even if the OP directs his question to a certain segment of the population here on the SDMB, all are allowed to join in the discussion. If you just want it to be a Republican lovefest, why don’t you go on over to the Free Republic?

Sorry, I respectfully disagree. The OP was *“Republicans; …” *, not for liberals, left wingers and socialist. Just like the pro Kerry lovefest’s, which no Republican would even view …

Please think of something better to post. This is just lame.

“Blowing a fuse”? Nah. Frankly, the whole “My grades were better than yours” nonsense bugs the hell out of me, no matter which side it comes from. My own college experience was very mixed - during the times when I was focused on my classes I had outstanding marks. Other times when I was following outside interests my marks suffered. And in my experience, college grades are not really an indicator of intelligence, but more of how disciplined and focused you were. The ‘grinders’ got good grades. A couple of the smartest people I know dropped out.

It just annoys me that Bush’s grades and SAT scores were made into such a huge deal during the last election - and yet, I can’t even find a mention of Kerry’s grades or SATs anywhere. Maybe that’s a sign that they are really good, so the Republicans don’t want to dig them out and splash them into the campaign. Or maybe they are about the same as Bush’s, so no one cares. But it is surprising to me that no reporters have even asked.

As for my message about what would happen if it turned out that they were substantially worse than Bush’s… That was just me needling you guys a bit. Lighten up.

Amen. Let me add to that: If Bush were a black Democrat, conservatives would automatically assume that he got into Harvard only because he was black, even with a transcript twice the caliber of Bush’s.

To all the Bush fanatics who think its perfectly fine that Bush got into not one but two schools of prominence by courtesy of heritage–and then cry foul when the same principle is applied to affirmative action beneficiaries–can you please explain to me why this does NOT make you a hypocrite?

All that matters is:

Stupid is as stupid does.

There isn’t a chance on earth that anyone here could answer you proposition? A Conservative at “Havard” and Yale …
