Request for Customer Service experiences with a potential employer: Stacks & Stacks

I’ve got a job interview next week for a Customer Service Representative position in the online customer service department at Stacks & Stacks, which I had never heard of before they called me back today (1 day after I faxed in a resume – new record for me!).

The job seems cool, the woman I spoke to on the phone was nice, the pay would be good (‘good’ is relative of course, but the pay would be great under my current circumstances), and though it’s in a horrible neighborhood (they do have three retail stores, all in Northern California, but I get the impression that they do most of their business as an online retailer), I’d jump at the chance to get this job. But I don’t know what the company’s like. Testimonials that they publish are of limited utility, and no one I know has ever shopped with them.

So I’m turning to you. Has anyone had any experience shopping with them? Working for them? Anyone ever been into one of their stores (Emeryville, Larkspur, Santa Rosa)? Anyone ever talked to their Customer Service on the phone? What was it like? Will anyone promise to call and harass me on my first day?

I poked around the site (www.stacksandstacks.com if you’re interested) and they have a lot of cool stuff. Sort of IKEA without the faux-Scandinavian couture. I sure hope there’s an employee discount in the bargain.

Well, actually, I just hope I get the damn job. My experience is pretty well suited for it, which I imagine is why they called me so quickly, but I’ve learned in the past not to get my hopes up.

Thanks in advance for any input. I hope there’s input. I want to be able to tell some kind of story at my interview and I’d rather not have to make it up myself out of whole cloth.

Never heard of them but, Good Luck!

Thank you, Slainte.

This is a bump hopefully to catch the Monday crowd. Does anybody have any information for me?

I was in there all of… twice, I belive. Didn’t get anything either time: I was mostly pricing out things, and seeing what they had. (I was lucky, and found what I was looking for in the clearance bin somewhere else.)

Can’t say much about ‘customer satisfaction’ though, but I remember that a) I was able to find somewhen when I needed to ask a quick question, b) they were polite and helpful, and c) weren’t asking me every two mintues if I was finding everything alll right, etc.

And yup, they got a lot of neat stuff! I’ve noticed their prices tend to be a bit higher overall though, but I think that’s so they can afford to have a wide variety of even the slow-selling stuff.

I ordered three of their folding milk crates from their website, and was very pleased with the transaction. Fast shipping, and the folding crates are nice and sturdy (polyethylene), not like the cheap styrene things you find at Home depot.

I dunno how much this is going to help you decide whether you want to work there…

Thanks Nightsong and Rocketeer. At least now I can truthfully tell them that everyone I’ve talked to has been well satisfied with their service and their merchandise. I appreciate your stopping by.

Interesting. I’ve never heard of them, and I’m from Santa Rosa, where they ostensibly have a store.

I purchased metal ice cube trays from them a couple weeks ago. They shipped them quickly and efficiently. I’ve looked through their catalog and it looks like really good stuff. I liked them.
