Ohhhh goodness sake. I just read the chapter entitled “Research,” in The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. Go get the book from the library, and sit down to read that chapter. A little more than 1/3 of the way in. I knew I got that degree in biology for a reason! Who needs religion, when one has biology and that chapter? No, that’s not right–religion is biology and that chapter.
Hoo boy, was that book a handful for me. Had to read it in an English class, all 700+ pages of it, thankfully not in German though
Can you elaborate about that chapter? Maybe it will jog my memory. I kind of thought the book Magic Mountain was like a more serious of the film “The Road to Wellville”.
The novel didn’t really seem to grab me, though.
It’s the one where Hans buys a lot of textbooks on embryology and physiology and pathology. Remember that one? It’s faaaabulous.
