The Vines (Highly Evolved) have a lot more slow, “ballady” songs - pretty much every other track, although I don’t think they’ve released any of these as singles. The Hives (Veni Vidi Vicious) have only one. While I’m on the subject, even the ROCK OUT songs on the Vine’s album (including singles Outtathaway and Get Free) have a slower pace than the more frantic Hives’ singles (Hate To Say I Told You So) - this is probably the most helpful thing that will help you distinguish between the two. Also, The Vines are more slicky produced; The Hives have more of a lo-fi sound. If you happen to see a music video, The Hives co-ordinate their outfits, the Vines don’t.
I dissagree with this. Have you actually listened or bought a Dave Matthews CD? First of all, unlike the Strokes, Dave Matthews has many many many songs. It’s highly unlikely for every single DMB song to sound the same. I don’t even know how you could exagerrate that. Dave Matthews is one of the most versatile bands out there. Pick 10 Dave Matthews songs at random and my prediction is that you will find at least 3 songs that sound totally different. My thinking behind your post is that you have probably only heard 2 or 3 DMB songs in your life…most likely on mtv or the radio. Sorry my friend, but you’re fired. Do your homework next time.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: “Otherside”, “Californication”, and “Scar Tissue” are the same song.
Laguna: I’m gonna have to agree with Elwood. You’ve heard one DMB, you’ve heard 'em all, at least among the songs that have been on the radio. You can’t expect anyone to buy the album and listen to all the “different” songs if the singles are all indistinguishable.
ok, you do have a point. but how do you think all of those dave matthews fans out there came to be…? MTV and the radio don’t usually play very good songs on the whole anyway.
Oh! Oh! I did, back in 1995 I bought Under The Table and Dreaming. I listened to it exactly one time. Why? I thought seven of the songs in the middle were one incredibly long song. So apparently the poster you quoted isn’t the only person who thinks their songs all sound alike.
Nuh uh.
I mean Dave writes tons of songs, and they may sound similar, just because of his voice. But they are all different.
Oh, and I adore “Don’t Drink the Water” Pure. Beauty.
The Strokes, I love this band. Sure some songs near the end of the cd are rather similar but most of it is pretty diverse.
And Red Hot Chili Peppers, all sound pretty close, but still good stuff.
But if you really want to see differences you have to listen to a cd more than once, and not while doing something distracting, so you understand what the artist intended.
