217 House Republicans voted to strip healthcare from millions of American citizens, which will result in thousand of preventable deaths. They did this to facilitate cutting taxes on the richest in our society.
In essence, they voted for a bill that will kill poor people while making the rich richer. This is as close to an objectively evil piece of legislation as I can envision. Could it be worse? Perhaps if they allowed the rich to actually hunt the poor and sick for sport, but the net effect here is the same.
217 House Republicans voted to murder poor people to give rich people more money. They are morally unfit for public service.
One can’t argue with this assessment. The one and only purpose of the Republican Party is to cut taxes for the wealthy. For the wealthy, the math is simple- donate a $100,000 to a congressman, get a million dollar tax cut. Everything else that Republicans espouse are just voter bait. I doubt most of them are racist, for example, but they are perfectly willing to pander to their base voters who are racists. Keep your eye on the money whenever you try to figure out Republican motivation.
Hey, don’t worry, it’s fine - it will strip tens millions of health insurance over the next ten years, but it’s morally okay because the bill it’s repealing vitiates the distinction between federal and state laws.
This is not argument this is question begging.
Healthcare is not being stripped. What is happening is that some people may have their subsidies cut and as a result may choose not to buy insurance. Health insurance is not healthcare, it is a financial product that has a value. For some people the value will be less than the price and they will choose to not buy it.
There is no evidence that Obamacare saved any lives. 44% of the people who gained coverage under Obamacare were people who signed up for medicaid and were eligible before Obamacare passed. These people will not be affected at all. Most of the other people who gained coverage were people who signed up for Medicaid under the expanded criteria. This is significant because there is no difference in mortality between those who have Medicaid and those who are uninsured. This is shown in the numbers since Obamacare passed age-adjusted mortality has not fallen but gone up by 1.2%. In fact mortality went up faster in the states that expanded Medicaid than in states that did not.
Since it is established that Obamacare did not save lives, we do know something that does save lives. A healthy economy with plentiful jobs leads to healthier lives. Since tax cuts can help the economy they should be good for people’s health.
On the bright side: 217 Republicans are finding out that voting in favor of unpopular legislation makes them unpopular with their constituents and may result in not being reelected.
No, they don’t believe that. They aren’t interested in a perfect world for everybody. They believe that if we give rich people more money then rich people will have more money.
Was I wooshed?
This wasn’t about making the rich richer. This was about the average working man, who had insurance previously, but under Obamacare saw his premiums skyrocket by as much as 24% per year, while deductibles rose as well, essentially leaving him paying out of pocket for nearly all of his families medical bills, on top of paying the increased premiums into the pool.
These are the same average working men that elected those republican representatives to do something about it. So these so called evil representatives are doing what their constituencies asked them to.
It’s simps like you that lap up the fake news like it’s ice cream and think that the piss that the Republicans are raining down on you is lemonade. If you think these Republicans think that voters like you are anything more than gullible rubes than you’re quite mistaken.
It’s not about that, it’s about “I got mine, fuck you”. All that procedural guff is a smokescreen to hide stock Republican selfishness. The conversation about no substantial difference between Republicans doing their jobs by holding confirmation hearings and not doing their jobs by not holding confirmation hearings shows that it doesn’t matter if the forms of kanly are obeyed or not.
