Uppers and downers, either way blood flows.
No.
You’ll get no argument from me. Got the album the first day it came out and it’s been my favorite album ever since.
One of my favorite Quad-related stories is from the Kennedy Center program honoring The Who. As Bettye LaVette was bringing down the house with her wonderful version of Love Reign O’er Me, Barbara Streisand, who was sitting next to Pete, leaned over and asked, “Did you really write that?”
(ps: the new Who album comes out on Friday…can’t wait!)
It’s not even the best Who album ever recorded.
Who’s on first?
Yes.
My thoughts exactly.
So, I just listened to the full album. What really, really stands out for me is Keith’s drumming.
Pete has criticized Keith because he couldn’t keep time. I’m not a musician or a drummer, but Keith never was a Ringo-style drummer. Just listen to any track from Quadrophenia and Keith is all over the place: in a good way! In fact, his drumming may be what really attracted me to the album in the first place.
The drums on Quadrophenia are unlike any other album. The drums are incredibly present, and not just a background metronome.
I’ve never heard a more prolific drummer.
Ringo - solid and steady.
John Bonham - same, but loud and powerful.
Stewart Copeland - talented and interesting.
John Densmore - got a jazzy touch.
Zak Starkey does a really good job of filling in for Keith, much better than Kenny Jones.
Ok. Well, that’s my position on drummers, for now. I can’t think of another drummer that brought so much to the song than Keith Moon. He was eclectic, but it totally worked for The Who.
Absolutely up there with the very best.
Hard to pick a favourite but 5:15 is something very special in terms of an epic intro and Townsend’s finest lyrics. It never gets old.
A good album, but Who’s Next, Tommy, and Who Are You are better.
Concur.
Absolutely. I’m not that interested in technical proficiency, it is vastly overrated.
My favorite album. The best album. My desert island album. I never tire of it.
Not to mention it was the live showcase for some amazing Entwistle bass solos.
Probably not the best ever recorded but close enough that I’m not going to argue.
Just listened to it while irking. EVERY song gives me goosebumps.
Just shoveled the driveway. I’ve moved on to the second best album ever recorded: Abbey Road.
Oh, that looks good. I’ll watch it later, thanks.
Have you (all of you) ever seen the movie? Fantastic.
Who did you irk?
