Resolved; Saudis are crazy! [car skiing video]

That’s what happens when you cover all your women up and you can’t get drunk on a Saturday night.

Unless you are one of the ones who have done it in a non-Arab country…then you are just common garden nutjobs.

I was in high school. Of course I was crazy. But not as crazy as a ghost rider. Someone was always in control of the vehicle, and the only people we risked was ourselves. And no, we didn’t do it in heavy traffic like those guys, either.

One has to have standards.

Yeah, I’ve done it. I’ll never do it again since a guy I grew up with died doing it a couple years ago. My wife and I are having our first kid sometime this week. I hope he’s not near as dumb as me.

I’ve done something similar here in the states, but we used plastic fast food trays to facilitate the sliding. Honestly, I think the most dangerous part about the whole thing isn’t the kids out of the car, but most likely the fact that the driver is probably also 16 and is more interested in what the friends outside are doing instead of watching the road.

As for the videos of motorcycle stunts- they’re still around.

They don’t have potholes or irregularities in the highways over there? It’s just miles of perfect roadway?

Just to make things perfectly clear: Not safe, not sane, not wise.
… but we did it.

Cisco, if your kid doesn’t, he (or she) will probably do something else just as foolish. And you’ll never know unless it goes wrong. This is part of life.

My dad used to tell me about the Model A he and his friends had. They took the tires off it, welded a roll cage together, and used to drive it down a hill onto the ice on the river, then yank a hard turn to roll it and count how many times it spun.

This was considered the height of entertainment in the 40s.

Yeah, having been to the “Kingdom” several times, I can say that it can be mind-numbingly dull. If ever a place needed beer.

Well, potholes are usually created by the freeze-thaw cycle … not so much of a problem in Saudi Arabia.

Remind me, next time you’re in Tampa, to show you our imaginary potholes.

Well, there’s also the fact that Saudi Arabia is an incredibly rich country, and there’s plenty of spare cash for maintenance. Also, this is the superhighway servicing the capital, so it’s likely to be the best-kept in the nation. ‘No potholes or irregularities’ doesn’t sound far-fetched.

Not to say that wet conditions cannot form them, too - obviously not anywhere near as fast. The freeze-thaw cycle is the main problem, followed by poor drainage.

“Wet” is also not that big a problem in Saudi Arabia as in Florida, you may note.

I remember being on a glaicer in the Himalayas. I also remember being out at night in S Arabia. Believe me the Himalayas had nothing on being S Arabia.
