A few years ago (pre-Youtube, I think), there were some pretty popular videos that went around of guys doing this with crotch-rockets, but I can’t find them. I always wondered if they had ball-bearings in their shoes or something, but like the Arabs in your video, they just seemed to be regular shoes. It seems like the road would chew them up instantly, but I guess not.

No, really… I have no idea what the link is, other than a YouTube link, which doesn’t even have a nice descriptive name like a wikipedia like would. Some explanation would be nice - is it something I can play with little kids around? With a boss looking over my shoulder? Is it gross or scary or loud or funny or…? I’m not going to play it without *some *explanation.
I wouldn’t play it with kids around, but only because I wouldn’t want them getting any ideas. And turn the sound down, there’s a lot of wind noise.
Other than that, I think you’re pretty safe.
I notice that at least one guy (closest to the camera) keeps alternating feet. I guess to give them a chance to cool down?
Its little kid ok, but if you have a teenager, especially a male one, I would keep it away from them.

Eh, stick your hand out the window when your going down the highway, the wind is strong enough to push your hand, but you can resist it without too much effort.
They must do something to their shoes though, maybe grease the bottoms?

Wouldn’t they be wearing those shoes that have rollers built into the sole? They look just like normal shoes so you wouldn’t be able to tell, especially in a blurry youtube vid.
I assumed that it was so hot that the tar was boiling out of the road.
Have you heard of tarring and feathering? Tar is notoriously sticky.
Maybe their shoes have teflon soles like the ones they put on sliding shoes for curling. I can’t see doing that with regular shoes, although I have to admit, I have never actually tried it. But yeah, one pothole/piece of crap on the road and it’s all over, baby.
