Resources for abused women in KC area?

I have a friend in the KC area who is in an emotionally abusive relationship and has decided she wants to move out before it gets physical. Complicating matters is that they have a young child together. She doesn’t know what to do and I have no clue. Do any Dopers know what resources might be available to her? I think what would be best (for now) would be an advocate who could meet with her and help walk her through her options. I’ll try some searching but a personal recommendation from experience would be appreciated.

Since the OP is looking for advice let’s move this to IMHO.

Have you tried calling the non-emergency line of the police station? The local hospital may have info as well.

The Rose Brooks Center
Hope House

I have friends who either worked or volunteered for these centers. Great places.

She can also call the local Rape Hotline. They should have this type of information on hand and may be able to offer other forms of assistance.

Kansas City Area Crisis Line

I also found this hotline for access to statewide resources: 1-888-363-2287

And this webpage that breaks down resources by region in Kansas:

Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence

If your friend feels threatened, it is likely she needs to take the child and go. Things can be replaced. Their lives can’t be.

Please have her reach out to these resources, or the groups TheFaerie mentioned. They will help her understand her options.
