Restaurant parking in front of dining area windows. Should cars kill their headlights quickly?

Up-scale hamburger place?
“And shall Madame be having the pomme frites this evening?”

Yep, I agree. Most assholes in this world are just walking collections of a massive number of small “own little universe” behaviors, combined with a latent desire to always be first in line.

No, but do pass the Grey Poupon, s’il vous plaît!

The upscale places have bathrooms you can use…the low scale places not so much.

Nope.

2009 Pontiac Vibe and if anyone can tell me how to kill the headlights without pulling a fuse or re-wiring the lights I’d love to know. It might actually get me back to the drive-in.

Oh, the Irony.

Maybe they were normal people that don’t let little things like this get under their skin.

I dare you get out of your running car and come in and tell me that to my face

I figured as much.

Even when the parking brake is set?

How can a driver not notice the spotlight they’re throwing on people right in front of them? Jeez, just because the restaurant didn’t show any foresight into their design doesn’t mean one can’t still show some consideration.

You know who else was inconsiderate with regards to his headlight use?

In the photo you posted, there is a significant elevation difference between the parking spaces and the eating space. Not that there wouldn’t of course still be some glare, but it’s not like the headlights would be pointing directly at the people sitting inside. Whereas there are some restaurants that this is exactly the case, and where I think it would be a little more obnoxious.

Basically, in that photo if you are in a car in the front space most of your headlight light is getting absorbed/reflected in the hedges, not in the eating area. Not a big deal at all.

With my Jeep Wrangler I’ve been able to turn off the silly “hill holder” clutch as well as the seatbelt dinging via sets of specific actions (turn key to this position, tap brake peddle twice, turn wheel all the way to the right…).

Do most cars have similar designs?

ETA: I found this info in a Jeep forum.

Looks like it’s a common complaint with the Vibe. There is a mod to disable them but it involves digging into the dash and cutting a wire.

Yes, of course they should kill their lights asap, whether it’s at a restaurant or someone’s residence.

Such places do actually exist. Here is one from celebrity chef Michael Symon.

The one near me actually does offer valet parking.

This is pretty much what I was going to say, other than the Canada part.

For that matter, kill your headlights when you’re parked alongside a pedestrian sidewalk too.

Normal people don’t like having bright lights shined in their faces. Seriously. Don’t take my word for it. Go ask them.
