Restaurant recommendations in Atlanta

Ha! You whooshed me!

Thanks, everyone! Keep 'em coming!
Dignan: sure, email me. Always happy to hear from a Doper.

Has nobody mentioned Agnes & Muriel’s on Monroe? Great, kitchy atmosphere and excellent southern food with a twist.

There’s some great Thai food in the Virginia Highlands area. I can never remember the names of the places, though. There’s at least two right across the street from each other.

For breakfast, it’s a tie between the Majestic on Ponce (for yummy greasy diner food) and Ria’s Bluebird on Memorial (for yummy sorta healthy cafe food).

I’m convinced that only natives like the Varsity. I personally think it’s highly overrated. If you want good fast food, go to Zesto’s!

Also in Little Five Points is The Vortex (featuring a giant skull for a door), the Brewhouse Cafe (drink a beer with the soccer hooligans) and El Myr (for mexican food).

Seriously, it might be easier to start listing restaurants that aren’t really good in this town. I can’t think of many, though. The buckhead diner, maybe (though I’ve only heard bad reports second hand).

I think you mean Pappadeaux. (http://www.pappadeaux.com/) There’s one in Marietta (NW) and one in Gwinnett (NE).

I worked at the restuarant Atlanta B4read Company. Never been there though.=-)

I’ll second Vortex.

Atlanta is chock full of very bad restaurants. Worst we’ve run across is Brick Oven Pizza in Roswell. We went in there to try a pizza a few weeks after they opened. We got this circular piece of cardboard-like dough, with cheese covered with many tiny pools of reddish grease. (LIterally, tiny pools of grease!I am not kidding.) No tomato sauce. Got, it was awful. The pizza was so bad we knew we were being insulted somehow, and we never went back. We would have felt like fools.
