Restaurants of the Past

How wonderful to hear! Trips to Indy with my mom and grandmother always included a visit to the Ayres tea room. I’ll definitely make a point of stopping at the museum the next time I’m back in the midwest.

Sorry about going back so far in the thread, but it finally came to me that the place was called Happy Joe’s. Looks like they are still around in some places.

Ah yes. There was one within walking distance of my high school.

Moving west, I have many fond memories of a pizza place called La Strega in West Hollywood - and an upscale sister, no brother place, Il Stregone. Western & Wilshire I believe.

Are not!

Are so! You can have any pecan rolls that come my way in the future.

Deal!

There’s a fairly new Shakey’s in my town. I haven’t been there but I noticed when the chain came back, the ads emphasized the lunch buffet rather than the pizza.

Before that, I think the last time I went to a Shakey’s was when I was a student at the University of Washington. There was a restaurant in the U-District and remember going there at least once for the Monday all-you-can-eat pizza. I think what almost killed Shakey’s was, unlike its competitors, it didn’t have home delivery.
