Restrooms & Toilets in Paris, France

Interesting thread. How do “self-cleaning” bathrooms work?

You should be sure to wave at the tourist boats with only one hand when you’re standing at one of those.

I remember about 25 years ago, New York City was considering a contract with a European company called JC Decaux to install the sanisettes mentioned upthread on NYC sidewalks. The company would be able to have advertising on the sides of the kiosks, which would be coin-operated for perhaps a quarter. I remember there were questions about how homeless people would be able to afford them, and what about disabled people, since the standard device wasn’t handicapped-accessible. And what if druggies shoot up in the kiosks? As I remember, the whole thing fell apart after a while.

And that was a shame, as we all need toilets from time to time, and it would be nice if decent clean ones were broadly available.

AIUI, the floor pivots up with the WC on it, and the backstage machinery washes the floor and WC. Which is why the floor will be wet when the next person goes in, and will feel slightly mobile under your feet.

SF did that for years, but became problem when whores would use them for “jobs”

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks!
