Retail deals / question

Last Saturday I bought LilMiss’s Xmas present at Best Buy, an iRiver mp3 player.
I paid part with gift cards (only reason I’d GO to Best Buy) and the rest was charged.

Come Sunday there’s an advert on TV stating if you buy certain selected mp3 players you receive a $50 BB card and free Napster stuff.

Tonight I went online and verified that the mp3 player I purchased is indeed one of the selected models.

What would you do?

I want to return/repurchase for the additional deal. My sister says that’s tacky. $50 is $50 in my opinion. LilMiss could buy a few CD’s with that.

Let me also ask - how IS Best Buy with regards to returns? Do I even have a chance in hell of making it work?

Return, immediately.

Or just go there and explain the deal. Trust me, you won’t be the first to do so, and most stores have a policy that “if you find it cheaper…” And I think almost every store has a “no questions asked” return policy if they shouldn’t want to play the game.

And dude, $50 is indeed $50!

Yep, return it. Or, if you’re feeling lucky, tell the [del]idiot[/del] [del]moron[/del] nice person behind Customer Service that you’d like your $50 card and Napster stuff. She may simply hand it to you.

If you have to, return it outright, take the store credit she gives you, then pick up an identical item off the shelf and buy it with the credit, and you should have your $50 and Napster stuff.

(And…uh…tacky? What’s tacky about getting a deal the store is offering?)

When I worked retail, we had a policy that if something in our store went on sale two weeks after you purchased that item, you could come in with your receipt and we’d adjust it for you and refund the difference. That’s essentially what this is, too, it seems to me. Definitely go back to the store. If I were you, I’d probably explain to the clerk and see if they would just give me the goodies. If they won’t, then return it and buy a new one.

I agree. The store, of course, will be happier if they don’t have to give you the extras, but most will probably just hand them over if you have a receipt instead of going through the rigamarole of returning it and buying it back.
