Retro Discovery Channel search - tropical infections

This may not be the correct forum because I am actually looking to find the name of an infectious disease. Mods, please move it if you need to.

Years ago, I remember seeing a nature show on the Discovery Channel. It was about the rainforest. At one point, there was footage of either a slug or a snail, a section of its body swollen and pulsating with rainbow colors. The narrator was saying that this was a symptom of a disease/infection/something that the snail was going to die of.

Has anyone else here seen this? Anyone know what this thing making the slug swell and glow and freak out is called? Please tell me I did not imagine this. Unsurprisingly, googling “pulsating jungle slug” yields nothing helpful.

It’s a parasite actually: Leucochloridium paradoxum. Here’s a link to the wikipedia page, and if you google its name you can find plenty of links on it.

Yeah, I’ll put it in Genral Questions. Somehow, Cafe Society just seemed the wrong place–unless you had a second part to the question, such as how to prepare the snail :eek:

Thank you Ro0sh, thank you samclem! I put it in CS because I saw it on TV and I figured someone else might have, too.

If anyone knows how to prepare such a snail, I’ll welcome that information as well. The more you know, etc.
