Return of the Trespasser kitty! ...And he's not well

Back in January, I posted a short video about a neighborhood kitty that came to visit and how my two housecats “welcomed” him. Months went by, and we didn’t see Trespasser…but in the last few weeks, we’ve seen him almost every day.

And when we don’t see him, we see signs of him…most notably, his decidedly not healthy poop (ewwww). It wasn’t until this morning, when we saw him snacking on the grass in our side yard, that we realized who was likely leaving the piles of goo in that area. (Sometimes it’s poop, sometimes it’s ooze.)

It makes me wonder if he has a home or at least is getting proper care. His coat could sure use a brushin’.

Since we have indoor cats, I don’t want to risk exposing them to something he might have. But I wonder if there isn’t something we could do.

Wanted to give y’all a little update…I’ll let you know if there are any changes in the Trespasser’s saga.

Do you have a garage you could stick him in while you take him in for treatment? You could quarantine him and get him suitable for adoption…

Of course, that’s what I was going to do, and now I have an extra cat.

We just grabbed a stray and took him in for FeLV/FIV testing so we’d know if he posed a threat to our cats (he was negative). While we were at it, we got him the rabies and distemper shots and an anti-flea treatment. Tomorrow I’m catching him again and giving him a wormer on general principles. We’d have neutered him, but it turned out someone beat us to it. We’re feeding him while we wait for an opening at a no-kill shelter–he was very thin and just sat at the edge of the yard crying for weeks until we couldn’t stand it any more.

If you could possibly catch Trespasser and have him checked out, it would be a great kindness. Although a lot of things can cause diarrhea in cats, FeLV/FIV are, sadly, among the possibilities.

I’m tempted to suggest leaving some water out for Trespasser, so his/her diarrhea doesn’t lead to dehydration in the summer heat, but that could be problematic if s/he has something communicable and other neighborhood cats drink out of the same bowl.

Mija, our black and white kitty in the video, was a stray as a kitten. Our vet steered us to a nearby clinic that does provides services via what I think was called the Maddie foundation–Mija was spayed for free through it. If Trespasser keeps making his presence known (both by his actual presence and his, erm, marks), I’ll give our vet a call for their ideas.

Trespasser seems so mean–what else could we call him? Freeloader? Hobo?

We’ve been calling our stray Mr. Sparkle.
