Listening to old radio programs from the 1940s, like Suspense and Escape, I’m used to hearing references to “War Time” – eg; “Suspense will return Thursday at eight o’clock, Eastern War Time.” Was this simply a verbal convention or was there some adjustment made? Is this something we can expect to hear more of in the months to come?
“War Time” was how Daylight Savings Time was referred to during the two World Wars. It was introduced as an energy-saving measure.
It was in effect all year round I believe, but, as usual, there were lots of local variations designed to confuse people. City dwellers liked it more than country dwellers.
