Rev. Al Sharpton for President!!

True. Like certain other fading/fringe types who’ve evolved into semi-perpetual candidates (Pat Buchanan comes to mind), Sharpton will boost his chances to get lucrative speaking engagements plus receiving the unwonted attention he craves. His chances of having any serious impact on the race must be rated at near zero.

Though it would be fun in a sick sort of way to see him on the podium at a debate with Al and Hillary.

Fun, maybe. Sharpton actually does quite well in debates. He does not have any foam dripping out of his mouth, surprising many people. And he is reasonably intelligent and has a good sense of humor.

Joe Lieberman. If you’ve ever met him personally there’s no way you can’t vote for him. Lieberman-Edwards in '04!

Well, here’s hoping for a Lieberman vs. McCain race in 2004.

  1. Libel is a civil, not criminal, cause of action.
  2. Sharpton was sued, not indicted or charged.
  3. Accordingly, in that libel case, Sharpton was not “found guilty” of anything. Instead, he was found liable for damages.[/fourth grade teacher hat OFF]

[lawyer hat ON] If someone ran for President who had been convicted of a felony, there would be no constitutional bar to his holding the office of the presidency. [/lawyer hat OFF]
