I have a coworker who keeps receiving phone calls at home from a fax machine. She can call the number back using *69 r whatever that key combination is, but it just gets her the fax machine. She would like to call the company who owns the machine and tell them they have a wrong number and to please stop trying to fax her, but she doesn’t know who the company is. Is there a way to look up the owner of a particular phone number? BellSouth is apparently of no help to her.
Thanks,
RR
Can’t she fax them back? This is what i did in a similar circumstance, although I had to borrow a fax machine at the time, and it was a pain… it was the only way to stop it though.
Here ya go. Type the number in the middle box (the one that says Reverse Lookup) and see what you get.
There’s a reverse search there.
If she did *69 and knows the fax number, and if the fax belongs to the company, you can try googling the fax number (just enter the number with dashes), and see if the company has a mention on the web somewhere along with a phone number to contact the company.
The reverse happened to me (someone called my company saying our fax kept calling her phone number; she explained she found our phone number online).
I believe www.411.com (www.411.ca if you’re in Canada) also has a reverse lookup, if you need a supplement to the links already provided for some reason.
Thanks for the tips, folks. I shall pass them along.
I don’t think she has a fax modem at home, so she hasn’t sent them a fax from there. I might suggest she try it from work if she has no luck with the reverse lookup.
Thanks again,
RR
The problem with the reverse lookup sites that have been linked here is that they usually only show numbers that are listed in the phone book. Fax numbers, etc. will usually come up with no match.
