Otto, you reminded me of Rick Rockwell, the millionaire with the police record from Who Wants to Marry a Multi-millionaire.
The guys that Tonya Harding got to try to break Nancy Kerrigan’s leg.

Dang it, widdershins, I was going to say “Mathias Rust”; I was proud of myself for remembering his name. Anyway:

In the Boston area at least;

Yahoo Serious
Do people even read other people’s posts?
mrweebles, who is Matt Young? A Red Sock?
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Here’s how to revive someone’s fifteen minutes of fame. You encourage them to do more things that will accrue fame and increase their celebrity status. Here’s my suggestion:
SDMB Book of the Month and Celebrity Birthday Party Club*
Each month, Dopers in each city will convene to (1) discuss the book of the month, duly chosen at the close of the prior month’s meeting; (2) eat nachos**; and (3) celebrate the celebrity who’s celebrity stock you’d like to rise – who celebrates their birthday during that month – by having them chair the discussion.
C’mon, how great would it be to have Bobcat Goldthwaite read aloud his favorite passages from The Old Man and the Sea? Surely the experience would inspire him to seek the limelight further…
Just my humble suggestion. I hereby apologize for the interruption.
Mr. Bill, Mr. Hand!

:smack: Sorry, I didn’t realise Yahoo Serious had already been posted, but he was the first person who came to mind when I saw this thread.
OK. I’ll try again–what about Jacko. Not Michael Jackson, but the beefy blond battery-advert guy. Another Aussie, wasn’t he? Do these guys still get work down there or were they too embarrassing to have careers in their homeland to begin with?
Lucky Vanous.
Come on, Bobby McFerrin was only universally famous for a while, but he doesn’t count here. He is hugely accomplished and respected in the music world.
Heck, Bobby McFerring is still touring! He gave a concert earlier this semester at the Center for Performance Arts in Gainesville, Fl.
How about those two Coreys who were briefly popular around 1990?
Or maybe Adam Ant.
Yes, and I believe Yahoo Serious is still making movies.
Doesn’t make him famous, though. The thread is “Revive someone’s 15 minutes of fame”, not “Revive someone’s 15 minutes when they were accomplished and respected”.
Vanilla Ice.
