Richard Russo

My cousin gave me Richard Russo’s “Straight Man” and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve never read any of his other books. Which one should I try next?

Oh oh oh oh oh! ** Nobody’s Foo**l and then the movie with Paul Newman. PERFECTION.

What took you so long?

(Thank you)

Also check out “The Whore’s Child” a short story compilation. Russo has a real gift for dialogue.

I will also suggest John Irving if you’re not familiar, specifically Cider House Rules and Prayer for Owen Meany.

And Michael Chabon’s “Wonder Boys” which is “Irving-esque.” He’s kind of hit and miss. IMO, heh.

Should we cut to the chase and list his books that are not good?

Puts on thoughtful expression. Okay, I got nothing. Really, you should just read them all in order… He’s a fantastic author.

I think Empire Falls is Russo’s best.

I’ve read a few; they’re all good.

Okay then, I’ll filter the results:
are they all as funny as “Straight Man”?

I loved “Empire Falls”.

I couldn’t finish “Bridge of Sighs”.

I couldn’t finish Bridge of Sighs either.
