Rick Perry Announces Presidential Bid

I think we need to borrow Hillary Clinton’s fork, because it’s time to stick it in Rick.

The article does point out that McCain ran into the same issues in summer 2007 and ended up winning the nomination While his people are still showing up and the Super PAC is spending money in the early states, he’s not completely forked. He can likely keep going through a debate or three if he’s really careful. He probably needs a Fiorina like second debate if he’s still at the kidding table though. There comes a point where he starts losing people if fundraising doesn’t pick up. Then he’s well and truly forked.

McCain was a frontrunner who fell down temporarily due to various issues and got back up mainly because he had the best chance to win of any Republican in 2008. Rick Perry does not suffer from excessive electability to justify a comeback.

If your popularity dips, you can come back with a bit of luck and hard work (see Santorum at the moment). But if your money dries up you’d better find a sugar daddy quickly or it’s game over.

The problem is that Perry, like Fred Thompson and Wes Clark, peaked at the moment he entered the race and only went downhill from there.

Santorum’s problem is simply that Mike Huckabee is in this race. Huck will do better among evangelicals than anyone else.

Rick Perry is more of an establishment candidate, except he’s competing in the same field as Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio.

Heh. Maybe they should call it the “Just kidding table.” Bolding mine.

Given what Fiorina accomplished, it doesn’t look like being left off the main stage should be much of a handicap. Perry will be at the next kiddie table, but that’s no excuse for not making a good impression.

Rick Perry never had a chance in this election. His best chance was in the 2012 cycle, but he was too busy trying to dumb himself down to the level of Sarah Palin so that he could get some Tea Party love. Like Bobby Jindal in Louisiana, I would never vote for him, but it’s a shame that both governors opted to be dumb as a political strategy, when the reality is that they’re a lot more intelligent in real life than the caricatures they decided to evolve into. When you’re from the South, the last thing you want to do is to make yourself look even dumber than people in the rest of the country presume you to be.

Being the most strident in her hatred while using actual complete sentences? Okay, that counts as an accomplishment. Ruining HP does not, however.

More likely he’ll drop out first. Can’t do much without a staff.

Just because Perry found Henry Kissinger’s glasses in a toilet doesn’t mean he gets to keep them.

What makes you think Perry’s acting dumb as a political strategy?
