Rick Perry on how to grow an economy

Well, I’ll start with the pitting. Cornopean, when the fuck are you going to understand that boiling complex, multifaceted issues down to one variable is usually not going to end well? And when the fuck are you going to realize that it’s almost always republicans doing this to fool you? You fall for every bullshit line in the book, miss the details, and end up with the wrong idea.

I keep hearing from conservatives that economic growth is not a zero sum game, that it’s all about creating wealth where none existed before. But then there’s this from Perry’s editorial:

He’s bragging about cannibalizing jobs from other states, which sounds pretty zero-sum to me. I wonder how much of Texas’s growing economy is really growth, and how much of it is just moving from one place to another.

yay. Look at all the wonderful job conditions in Texas…like this one

And that Cornopean meant to offer us three options. But he forgot the last one…

Oops…

Texas has the good fortune to be sitting on top of oil. Price of oil has gone up, they make shitloads of money. They still lead the nation in uninsured workers, so these jobs apparently don’t contain benefits. If Perry wants to brag about being Little China, let him.

No. If you think there’s something worth reading in it, quote the relevant portion and I’ll read that.

Jobs might be moving to Texas but I wonder if people that held those jobs are moving as well. The O&G company I work for announced plans to move ~150 positions from California to Houston but only about 40% of those people accepted the transfer. The rest found other jobs or retired. The ones that did move found that the “low tax” claims made by Gov. Perry extends more corporations than to residents.

I keep hoping we will get some intelligent conservatives posting here.

Instead we get cornholio. I even imagine that voice when I read his posts, and I picture him at his computer with his t shirt pulled over his head as he types this bullshit.

Steady on. He’s got some odd ideas but he’s polite and willing to listen.

He uses the vocabulary of politeness. This is not the same as being polite. And his continual refrain of everything that is touched by government is automatically made worse by the contact does not mitigate in favor of a conclusion that he’s willing to listen.

  1. The Department of Energy.

Beavis could be pretty philosophical as his alter ego. After all, aren’t we all looking for the figurative TP for our bungholes?

Well played.

Dunno. Be helpful if the OP actually hung around to delineate his under-lying premise instead of just taking a dump and tottering off…

You’re all wrong. It’s not oil.

It’s Rick Perry’s hair. People come from all over the world to see it. People move to Texas to be near it.

To be fair, it does use a lot of oil.

My take-away from this Pitting (other than the reminder that Texas has oil :p) is that Rick Perry is viewed as an important Republican idea man. :dubious: In a neighboring thread another right-wing Doper tells us Bob Woodward is a respected liberal intellectual. :smack:

What bizarre types of sources inform these wingnut Dopers? Comic books?

I just like how he couldn’t think of a third thing.

ETA: I see Munch got to that joke before I did. Damn you, Munch.

Oh, now I finally get that (several hours later). :smack:

heh heh… bunghole… heh heh.
