Putting this here so that it shows up for anyone doing a search on plantar fasciitis.
No one treatment fits everyone. But here is how I avoid dealing with plantar fasciitis.
I’m a seasonal runner. Don’t like the cold. I start running in March. But each year I would have to quit early because of plantar fasciitis. And each year, it would come earlier, Sept, then July, then May… until one year I was done before the end of March! I thought I was going to have to give running up permanently.
The simple solution for me was to warm up thoroughly and cool down thoroughly. In addition to stretching, I walk a half mile before I start running AND walk a half mile after, before I go inside and sit down or get in my car. That was three years ago and I have had no signs of plantar fasciitis since.
I believe I had it for a while. A lot of advice is to stretch your foot upwards, but I think that’s one of the things that caused it, so I started stretching downwards. That seemed to help.
Before that, my feet were just sore all the time. A friend said that he fixed that by never going barefoot or wearing non-supporting footwear like slippers. I made a habit of putting on my sneakers as soon as I got out of bed in the morning. My feet got better very shortly after that.
I had it for a while. The two things that helped me were a sleeping with a Strassburg sock
and stretching my feet up every morning before getting out of bed. The first cured the problem, and I do the second for maintenance. I had previously tried some firm foot braces, and they were uncomfortable to sleep in, and sometimes I pushed too hard against something and another part of my foot went numb. The sock worked perfectly, with no hard things to hurt myself on.
I had it. Ended up wearing a splint to stretch my foot, keep my ankle at a 90 degree angle at night. Did that for months, but it fixed it and has not come back. I’ve been good for about 8 years.
