From my office window I can see where the SLUT tracks are getting laid. I doubt I’ll ride regularly, but the occasional lunchtime quickie might be welcome.

Hmm, that I’d call a “cable car”. Over here (and in Ireland where they have the Luas), “tram” specifically means what you call “streetcar” that runs on rails. And NZ I think - they have a “tramway” system in Christchurch, on which “trams” run. Just another one o’ them oddities, I suppose.
For quite some time, the Montreal Urban transit company was abbreviated (in French) as STCUM - it got quite a few laughs from the anglophones in the province. Since the merger, it goes by STM, but the website www.stcum.qc.ca still directs to them.
For some reason I made the comment about taking the “St. Cum” to my husband a while ago; perhaps because he is francophone, he never clued in to that acronym!
