Hate to tell you this but it’s not true that Tim R. Mortiss hasn’t been paying attention. He is deliberately and maliciously spreading the right wing’s vile, hateful lies.
When you compare not calling some unfortunate soul “Cripped” to censorship of basic words, you’ve seriously failed.
Are you seriously lamenting not being able to call people “cripped”?
So you definitely don’t believe in being kind to others, right?
And homeless children are “bums”? How compassionate of you.
Bum implies agency. Not working a job by choice. Not easy to stop being homeless once all your resources are drained.
not all undocumented workers had a choice in coming to America, about a million of them were dragged here by their parents.
Sanctuary cities are only “lawless” against a single specific set of laws
Black Lives Matter - you got me here. It turns out that police are shooting white people wrongfully about as often as they shoot black people. I agree that the phrase is divisive, all races should be concerned about police homicidal violence and action should be taken.
Remember separation of Church and State? A large percent of America are no longer christian and we agnostics and atheists, who are eventually going to be the majority, would rather you kept your religious mumbo jumbo to yourself.
cripples/handicapped/disabled - I’ll sort of go with you there.
Okay, now do you understand why absolutely none of this has any relevance to the issue of what the CDC is allowed to put in their reports? Oh, and for the record, fucking nobody says “differently-abled” or “holiday trees”. That’s not actually a thing. Stop watching Fox News, it is actually really bad for your brain.
@OP: did you expect better? Because I didn’t. And you shouldn’t either.
Where are those phrases forbidden in government documents?
Trump uses the term “sanctuary city”.
CE/BCE is more style guide. It makes for better communication across cultures, esp in academic papers etc.
There’s still Christmas trees. Why do you want to forbid “Holiday Trees”?
There’s plenty of homeless people who don’t fit the stereotype of a “bum”.
Conservative correctness
Apologies, that was a typo. I meant to write “crippled,” a perfectly acceptable word back in the day. Tiny Tim never had a problem with it.
Get with the times. The correct rightwing insult for the disabled is “lazy welfare leech”.
Why do we care what was acceptable language back in the 19th century? It’s the 21st century. Hell, slavery was acceptable into the 19th century.
Oh yeah, I get the idea. You’re weilding a pretty big shoehorn there. I honestly can’t see the relationship in bettering and more accurately representing people and denying science and facts. Plus some of the things you listed aren’t true. Who is forced to say BLM?
Do you honestly believe calling a cripple disabled or a bum homeless is “fighting dirty”? Or the White House actually banning perfectly appropriate words is on the came level?
Oh, come ON, guys. Tim R. Mortiss is clearly being sarcastic. People who live in Lincoln Park don’t say that kind of shit seriously.
Th’ scalawag obviously belongs to the ACLU, subscribes to the Chicago Lyric Opera, and sends his kids to the Francis Parker School.
Moderating
This is a subject matter more suitable for Great Debates. Unfortunately, the level of discourse has gone so far off the rails at this point, I don’t think moving it would help anything. We already have a Pit thread going on the same subject. Ergo, I’m closing the thread.
Lucas Jackson, I truly believe you want some modicum of civil discourse on this issue, so I suggest you start a Great Debates thread with a tone suitable for that forum.
