Rights of Mexican National

Due to recent events, my father has asked me to inquire about obtaining Mexican citizenship. One reason is to take care of any family business down there. The other reason is I always complain why the people here protest for illegal immigrants, but don’t do anything to change why they came here, i.e the corruption in Mexico, etc. By law, foreigners can’t protest, etc. so maybe I can with it.

“Citizenship? I thought I could be only a Mexican national? Don’t I have to live there to be a citizen?”:dubious:
“No, you can go to the consul and get dual citizenship.”

OK, what exactly is offered by Mexico? (I only know I qualify due to my father being born there) What rights and privileges does it have?

Did he give up his Mexican citizenship? For a long time, Mexico didn’t recognize dual citizenship, so that could be a problem.

Probably best to look into that route.

You mean Mexico doesn’t do anything to change it, right? It’s not the USA’s responsibility. I’d dispute that corruption is the problem, though, but poverty. The people most affected by corruption are the smart ones, the ones that earn money, the middle class and above. They’re not the ones jumping illegally over the border. Most of them are very content here.

Yeah, I find it hard not being able to have an opinion here. But… I really, really encourage you to lead people (middle class) to protest. Only the stupid people and the poor people protest here. They close the roads, and make traffic even more miserable than it is, but no one pays attention because they have no real power, because they’re stupid and/or poor (note: I’m talking two different groups, and not saying that stupid=poor). On the other hand, these people already have nothing left to lose, so I guess it’s the middle-class and above that are afraid to protest, because they have everything to lose.

I’d protest with you, but I’m not allowed. (I’ve a Mexican wife and almost 5 years [discontiguously] living here; I’ve considered looking into dual-citizenship m’self.)

Can’t vouch for its accuracy, but this might be a good starting point: http://www.ehow.com/facts_4795680_mexican-citizenship-requirements.html
