Rik Mayall is NOT American!!

And who could forget Rik’s steller performance in Shock Treatment, where he played…Rick!

Is that a canoe in my pocket or am I happy to see you?! WOOF!!

Pollution.
All around.
Sometimes up
Sometimes
Down.
But always around.
Pollution?
Are you coming to my town?
Or am I coming
To yours?
We’re on different buses, pollution.
But we’re both using
Petrol.
BOMBS…!

Now I have a craving for some totalitarian vegetables.

Fans of the Young Ones would probably enjoy ‘Filthy, Rich and Catflap’ not as good as the Young Ones but still a lot of fun.

Ade, Rik and Nigel Planer (Neil in the YOs) all star as the main characters.

Rilchiam: at whom is this rant directed? if it’s about something somebody said in a thread here, then can we perchance have a link?

Mangetout: no, nobody here. As I said in the OP, this was someone IRL: Friend’s SO, who was at my house watching Monday’s premiere of AbFab because neither of them have cable. She’d made these bogus claims before, only this time she was being totally insistent and, as I mentioned, making shit up.

She went into great detail about a phantom YO episode in which Rik’s parents disown him. As I said, there may have been a Comic Strip episode that I didn’t see where a character played by Mayall clashed with his parents, but that doesn’t sound like CS. Plus, she brushed off suggestions to that effect, maintaining that it was set in the YO house and Alexie Sayle made an appearance. Bollocks.

And laughed at me the whole time. I might have been okay with it if not for that.

I do not always have to be right. I disagree with people when they’re wrong because I don’t want them to hold onto misconceptions, or spread misconceptions to others. If I only think someone is wrong, I will say, “I’m not sure about that,” and then research it, or ask for details.

When I’m wrong, I admit it. You’ve heard me. Didn’t I admit that I was wrong about Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter being part 5? Did I not concede when you proved to me that it was part 4? Well? Is that someone who always has to have the last word? I only want to know what is right.

I held out about Candy Guard not submitting the same short to Spike ‘n’ Mike two years in a row because I didn’t want the other people in the room to think that was so. College students will repeat anything without checking it. I didn’t want word to get around that “Spike ‘n’ Mike show the same shorts every year!..Oh that sucks! Well, I won’t go then!” I like Spike ‘n’ Mike, and I didn’t want them to lose so much audience that the Playhouse wouldn’t book them any more.

I started out trying to correct her only because I didn’t want her to chase episodes of the Young Ones that didn’t exist. She’s the one who told lies rather than admit that she was wrong, so she escalated it, not me. So who’s more of a snatch? Me, or your bimbo who laughed at me? Laughed. At me. In my own home.

You are, 'cos you thought that Rick Mayall was only in one Bl’adder.

A couple of questions:

When she was talking, was she sitting down? And if so, was her voice muffled?

Also, look closely at the lip-sync next time she attempts to contribute one of her factoids into the conversation.

Dead giveaways as to whether or not what she is saying is kosher, I think.

Sorry, it wasn’t very clear.

There’s a simple way to clear everything up. Next time she comes over, surf over to Steve Rapport’s Young Ones Page and show her that there are only 12 episodes. You can show her the scripts, the complete episode guide, the original BBC broadcast dates, and even the scribblings of The People’s Poet.

Johnny, that’s the first site I showed her! In fact, I remember that I found that page and added it to my favorites not long after she made her claim of multiple series, in 1999, and I made note of the fact that there were only 12 eps.

Then she said, “Well maybe that guy doesn’t know…”, so I did a google search. That’s when she started laughing, I guess because “Madeja look, madeja look!”

psychogumby, what the heck are you talking about?

Dry Australian Humour, Rilchiam.

Ever heard someone accuse someone else of talking out of their arse? Re-read my post, and join the dots.

Mayall also played Robin Hood in Black Adder V: Black Adder Back And Forth.

Esprix

I getcha, psycho.

Everyone else: All right already. Mayall and Edmondson both made appearances in Blackadder. I concede. But that doesn’t back up her claim that Edmondson offed himself, or that he did it because of being at a loose end because of Blackadder.

While we’re on the subject, anyone here like Fry and Laurie, together or separately? I think they’re a scream.

I love 'em. Great writers and brilliant at improv.
“Something I’ve always wondered. How did you keep Nancy for so long?”
“…I’ve never been nancy, John.”
“I once cut all the hairs on a gentleman’s head in Cairo, shortly after the War, when the world was in an uproar and to a young man everything seemed possible.”

I love that show. The local PBS station showed the whole series once about ten years ago. That’s the only time I’ve seen it. I know there’s a “Best Of” video out there - I’ve been planning on buying it for years now.

My favorite sketch (as far as I can remember, anyway) was where Fry was dryly announcing new tax changes on TV. Laurie was in the audience and started heckling. It gradually got more and more bizarre, until they both ripped off their coats, revealing tights. Laurie swung down to the stage and they started sword fighting. Hysterical. You’ll have to take my word for it.

No, psycho, she wasn’t a South Park character.

If you like these two its worth checking out their appearances in ‘Jeeves and Wooster’ - perfect casting for a perfect pairing.

Anyone remember Mayall as Kevin Turvey? Ade Edmondsen as Pete singing ‘Pete Marshall and his Musical Anarchy’ - classic!
