We’ re considering buying a Ring doorbell. I am reading how Amazon either sells or allows your personal data to be used by a handful of companies. In addition, it seems there are reports of hackers gathering your personal information and using it for blackmail, and such.
Please tell me what you know about the risks, how security has improved in recent times, and also let me ask:
a) Can such risks be eliminated if the Amazon Sidewalk feature is turned off?
b) If the risk is somehow through the App itself, can’t I turn off features like “use my location”? Or, is this just a false sense of security?
c) Is the risk any greater than any of the common Apps found on most phones now anyhow?
d) Last, “Ring” and/or Amazon was supposed to develop a new privacy dashboard to the mobile app to let Ring owners manage their connected devices with other privacy and security settings to be added in the future (per The Verge of 30 Jan 2020).
Note: If it matters, we have Apple iPhones.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
