Rings (for fingers) - why entire and not split?

Wearing my wedding band so I’m not having to constantly fend off potential suitors seems like a fairly practical reason to me.

That’s what I do. I wear my rings when I’m at work (office), around the house and so on. But as soon as I’m doing any sort of manual labour, then off they come. It’s not worth the risk - even if I don’t damage my fingers, then I can damage the rings themselves (except for my tungsten one, which is damn near indestructible - if I manage to damage that while I’m wearing it, then it’s probably a serious enough incident that I won’t have much of a finger left anyway  ).

There is obviously a risk to wearing rings just in day to day activities, but then there’s risks in everything. Sometimes you’ve just got to chance it.

Ah, but aren’t the suitors the band attracts even worse and more difficult to repel?

Not if they’re a band of merry suitors.
