[RIP] Bill McKinney - "Deliverance"

Bill McKinney, who terrorized Ned Beatty in “Deliverance” has died at the age of 80.

He was also a member of Clint Eastwood’s late 70s - early 80s stock company.

Apparently a nice guy off-screen, I think it’s worth noting his official website can be found at www.squeallikeapig.com :stuck_out_tongue:

Finally! It’s safe for guys to go camping again. Probably. Maybe. No, still won’t chance it.

RIP

I’ve told thisstory before, but…

In the early Nineties, my boss was a woman who was very friendly with Wes Studi, the American Indian actor (you may remember him in “Geronimo” or as the villain of “Last of the Mohicans”). Studi was in Austin shooting an episode of the TV Western series “Ned Blessing,” and he invited by boss to Willie Nelson’s ranch, where the show was being taped.

Bill McKinney had a part on that show- and according to my boss, he was always ready and willing (eager, in fact) to re-enact the rape scene from “Deliverance” to anyone who showed up on the set. There’s always a lot of down time in the making of a movie or TV show, and actors tend to come up with routines to entertain each other while they’re standing around waiting to do their scenes. McKinney revelled in doing that scene to break people up.

Have no idea if it’s true or not, but in his memoir, Burt Reynolds said that McKinney got a little overeager during the scene, to the point of actually whipping it out.

I hope his family has enough of a sense of humor to humor us all with his gravestone.

“The Squeals Are Silent Now”

Serious question: I wonder if Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty are going to be at his funeral?

Bill played some very mean roles in his career. None more memorable than his squeal like a pig line as he buggered Ned Beatty. He was also in The Outlaw Josey Wales, Gauntlet and Any Which Way You Can with Clint Eastwood. IIRC he always plays the bad guy.

Already thread started here.

Merged duplicate threads.

He was also in the MST3K movie Final Justice, starring the dyspeptic Joe Don Baker.

From what I can gather, his “partner in crime” Herbert “Cowboy” Coward is still alive - making fairly regular appearances at an NC flea market. He’s the one, who when told he’d be participating in a male rape scene allegedly said “I done worse”.

Yeah, he told this story on the old Bob Costas Later show! He said that he ran into the shot and stopped him. Later, when he asked the director John Boorman basically, “What the fuck?!?” Reynolds said that Boorman told him he knew he (Reynolds) would run in and stop it. Reynolds also said that this is the reason, in the later scene after McKinney’s character has been killed, Beatty’s character lunges towards his corpse and has to be held back by Cox & Voight. He says that was genuine anger on Beatty’s part, and not in the script!
