RIP, Efrem Zimbalist Jr.

NYTimes

You’ll always be Daniel Chalmers to me.

Though it is a little weird for me that you were both Miss Holt’s and Mr. Steele’s dad.
ETA: I’ve already requested a title change to include “Jr.”

I had no idea he’d still been alive.

77 Sunset Strip was a cool show, at least at the time it was cool. The F.B.I. was a popular long running show, but the F stood for Ford. As ever, more and more people will die who have never died before. Good night Ephrem, thanks for the entertainment.

I was unaware of him till fairly late in his career, when he was Zorro’s dad on the cheesy 80’s show, but once I knew of him I liked him, and began to notice him in a lot of the other stuff.

I enjoyed his turn as the industrialist William Edgars in Babylon 5 - as much for the pleasant surprise of seeing him in the role as for what he did with it.

He played a great character and gave us Stephanie. Can’t ask for much more than that.

He was also a cartoon voice actor. He was known to many for playing Alfred Pennyworth in the animated Batman series and was also Doctor Otto Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus in the 1994 Spider-Man series.

The “Jr.” designation always seemed to be welded to his name. His daughter, as far as I am concerned, is “Stephanie Zimbalist, Jr.” He has a son, supposedly Ephraim Zimbalist, III. That’s just wrong - it should be “Ephraim Zimbalist, Jr., Jr.”

Oh my goodness. :frowning: I’ve been in love with this guy since I was about 11, first on 77 Sunset Strip and later on the FBI. Such a classy gentleman with a relaxed, sophisticated manner. Apparently he was that way IRL, a gentleman through and through.

Dang, another of my long-time faves gone…

Heh. I’d agree.

But then, I never understood how the scion of the Doyle family became the patron of the Conan Doyle family…

How?

I doubt anyone will complain if I spoil a 30 year old show, but ya never know around here.

Zimbalist was the real-life father of Stephanie Zimbalist, aka Laura Holt. In the final episode of “Remington Steele,” his character, Daniel Chalmers, is revealed to be Steele’s father.

I remember watching The FBI. I thought all cops were like Inspector Lewis Erskine. I never saw him in 77 Sunset Strip. I was still in my crib.

It was great seeing him again in Remington Steele and Babylon 5. He always made the most of any role.

R.I.P.

I always wondered how they pitched him on Wait Until Dark.

“As you can see, everyone gets a chance to shine and really show off, except you.”

I’ll miss you Efrem, you’ll always be William Edgars to me.

::: singing ::: Seventy-seven, Sunset Strip [snap, snap]
Sigh. On the other hand, he was in his mid-90s, so he lived long and prospered.

At least I’m not the only one that thinks that way!

I thought Robert Downey Jr. must have been the son of Morton Downey Jr.
