RIP James Garner

James Garner has died: James Garner Dead -- Legendary Actor Dies at 86

I always really liked him. One of my favorite actors from that generation.

Damn he was the best. He made it look easy

I hate that. Good actor. Great guy.

I must admit I didn’t know he was still alive.

Which in my mind means he has had a damned good run, at 86 years.

This is Jim Rockford. At the tone leave your name and message…

Awww. Grew up watching him in The Rockford Files.

Don’t forget the quintessential guy movie, The Great Escape.

And the best movie of all time, robbed of an Oscar due to the prevailing Hollywood political climate: Tank

One of my favorite movies with him was Murphy’s Romance, with Sally Field.

I’ll miss him.

I was going to mention a role I particularly liked him in, but want to add instead that I’ve never not liked him in anything; the guy was always terrific.

Wow. Married to wife Lois for 58 years. Rare.

They got married two weeks after first meeting too! Guess they were meant for each other.

He made acting look utterly effortless. I’ve got the Rockford Files theme stuck in my head now, dammit.

Tough luck, but better than this.

He made anything he was in look good. Even the post-John Ritter 8 Rules for Dating My Teenaged Daughter. Even the American Beef ads. Even those Polaroid ads with Mariette Hartley, where they had such chemistry that everyone assumed they were married, even years afterwards.

Aw, Darn it.

I liked him in everything. But The Rockford Files is probably my favourite show of all time.

I guess Jimmy won’t be getting back us this time…

I didn’t really appreciate Rockford Files during it’s original run, but when I was in college one of the local TV stations would rerun it on Sunday nights after the 10pm news and I was hooked.

R.I.P Jimmy.

You’ve got to be joking, there is no way in hell a movie like that would ever be in contention for an Oscar.

LOL

Thanks for the chuckle.

Every week, we hoped the episode of Maverick would focus on Bret–played by James Garner. No offense to the other brother, but Bret was much cooler & funnier…

As a kid, I loved him in Maverick. Then came the movie Support Your Local Sheriff, which was kind of a continuation of the role. Like others, I never saw him do a bad job in anything. He just had that easygoing manner that sat naturally with him, and he was smart enough to not stray too far from it (although I admit to not seeing all his movies). Rockford was a great show; I looked forward to it every week. Damn.
