Actress Karen Black has died, age 74.
Aww. So sad. She was one of the cool actresses of the 70s. After gaining recognition in Five Easy Pieces she played smart sexy characters in a lot of movies. Her IMDB resume shows she stayed busy right up to the end. Goodnight Karen, thanks for the memories.
Aaagh! The Zuni fetish doll finally got her!!!
That IS quite the resume, though. Nothing huge, but very steady work for decades. Looks like the listing of someone who NEEDED to keep busy, and it seems she succeeded.
'Though the wind may whisper an epic sometime,
the cast must include Karen Black. ’
RIP Karen, you had quite the career.
First thing I thought of, too. I think we can all agree that cancer and that Zuni doll have a lot in common .
RIP, lady. You put up one hell of a fight.
I always liked her in one of my favorite movies, obscure to most of the world, You’re a Big Boy Now. All of the other actors in that flick are dead now, too, but what do you expect for a 50-year-old movie?
The beauty with the strange eyes. I’ll always picture her framed in Mrs. Allardyce’s window.
RIP
74?!? When did she get old?
RIP, Karen.
Another +1 for a Zuni Doll flashback when I heard the news.
Not sure what it was about her, but I never really thought of her as a “classic” beauty - she always seemed a bit rough around the edges, maybe a bit dirty… which of course made her all the more alluring.
Now who will land the plane!
RIP
My thoughts exactly. The films she’s known for seem too recent for her to be that old. Damn, time is catching up on me…
She was great in “Five Easy Pieces.” RIP
I always got her mixed up with Karen Valentine. Both sort of similarly-shaped faces, I guess.
RIP
I must admit, “Dr. Bernice” was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the OP, too!
Ah, what a shame! I loved her segment in the “Trilogy of Terror” with the Zuni fetish doll… I looked at her IMDB entry and noticed how much other stuff that she had done. Steady work, for sure! Great actress. RIP.
Died of bladder cancer. This is truly evil of me, but back when Farrah Fawcett died of anal cancer, my 78-yo mother whispered to me in scandalous tremor that she’d heard that was prevalent in women who engaged in anal sex. (If only there were a Nobel Prize for Supressing Ones Laughter…) I feel like going over now and asking if Karen Black took it up the urethra.
Don’t tell her about Michael Douglas.
Loved her best in Airport 75, climb baby climb!
