RIP Karl Wallinger, 66

Member of the Waterboys as well as leader of World Party, and writer of great hooks. One of my favorites here:

Here’s another great song of his:
“Way Down Now”
It sounds like a lost early Stones track.

His social criticism – in his lyrics and videos and interviews – was unusually deep-rooted and convincing.

Well, that sucks, 66 is much too early. I was a fan of the Waterboys and World Party back in the days, and still am. Karl Wallinger and Mike Scott are pop masters.

This makes me so sad. I love World Party. Bang is one of my favorite albums. Karl was truly gifted. Here’s another for your listening pleasure.
Sooner or Later

Only 66!

This is political spam.

Please explain. It’s a link to “Put the Message In the Box,” a World Party song.

The thread title indicates that the subject matter is the death of one person, but the link is one political ad after another. It should at least be in Politics and Elections, not Cafe Society.

The link goes to a blank screen for me.

When I click the link it takes me to YouTube and the song I wanted to post. There’s an ad before it plays but it isn’t remotely political (for me, at least).

At any rate, someone please close this. Perhaps someone else can post a little tribute to a great (now late) performer.

I think I fixed it. You had pasted in a Google Search link and not a YouTube link. Within the search link was the Youtube code DXDJbqws3MY so I was able to build that.

I had forgotten about World Party to be honest, but remember Ship of Fools fondly.

This is more like it. Good job!

I have always really enjoyed “Way Down Now.” It’s got one of my favorite bass guitar parts ever. It’s nimble and fun and I just can’t help but bust out some air bass when I’m listening to it.
