According to his daughter Laura, Science fiction author Mike Resnickhas died. He won five Hugo Awards and was a well-known anthologist.
Yeah. I just got word via his GoFundMe (which had been collecting money to help him pay medical bills). I read a lot of his books - both the ones he wrote and the ones he edited.
I liked his “themed” anthologies, like Alternate Presidents (which has one of the best covers ever for an alternate history – Alternate Presidents - Wikipedia )
The only fiction of his I can recall reading is his contribution to the Red Tape War and his contributions to his anthologies.
the man had multiple Hugo nominations. I really oughtta read more of them.
Recommend starting with “Santiago”. If you like it, there’s more set in that universe.
Oh no! Ddamnit; today is not starting well for me.
Walpurgis 3 has a special place in my heart.
RIP Mr. Resnick; you done good.
Oh, that’s a pity. He wrote some good stuff.
RIP; I didn’t even know he was sick.
I’ll second this recommendation.
Never read any of his stuff, but for years, I was on a science fiction listserv that he was a part of. Sad to hear he’s gone.
Damn.
He was very approachable, and I’ve chatted with hm a number of times at conventions. Once I had just finished reading The Other Teddy Roosevelts and just had to tell hm how much I had enjoyed it; we ended up talking about TR for a while.
I enjoyed the novels that I read, particularly Birthright: the Book of Man and The Best Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gunslinger in the Whole Damned Galaxy (the ending of which I found kinda heartbreaking).
