Since several of you helped me with various issues with my dog, I thought I should report. My dog Zoe has been having serious problems with epilepsy. We put her on phenobarbital and potassium bromide, but that only managed to reduce the frequency of seizures to once a month or so.
A couple of months ago I sent her to live at my aunt’s house in California, in hopes that change of environment may help, and also because (1) excessive urination due to medication was becoming impossible to deal with in my 1-bedroom apartment, and (2) we suspected tension with my other dog was exacerbating Zoe’s condition. She seemed to do very well for the first couple of months, but I just learned she passed away suddenly last night.
Of course I expected this might happen, though I didn’t expect it quite so soon. I can’t help but think if I could have saved her if I was with her. But since her seizures were getting worse, I know it was a matter of time before this happened, or the seizures got so frequent that she needs to be euthanized.
I just wanted to thank you all again for all the help you gave me about getting and keeping a dog. You - and she - have taught me much.
