Ron Cobb - Cartoons (roncobb.net)

1960’s counter-culture cartoonist who just disappeared from view. Went off to live in Sydney.Australia, and did commercial art ( ‘Back To The Future’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Conan the Barbarian’, ‘Alien’ etc.)

I never did see an explanation of why he quite doing cartoons, or, really, why he quit doing interviews and moved to a foreign country, but clearly he was still earning a living.

Ron Cobb Dies: Production Designer And Cartoonist Known For ‘Back To The Future’, ‘Star Wars’ Was 83 (msn.com)

Oh, man, hadn’t heard this.

Cobb did a LOT of stuff. He designed aliens for Star Wars, right from the first film, then did the same for The Last Starfighter. He designed the ship in Dark Star, and an awful lot of other things in movies, especially fantastic cinema. He did biting political cartoons. He and his wife co-wrote a Twilight Zone episode.

He created the widely-used Ecology Flag

Cobb was one of those wide-ranging creators who influenced my life in multiple, yet largely hidden, ways.

Here’s a webpage with some of Cobb’s political cartoons:

I hadn’t realized that he did covers for Ackerman’s Famous Monsters of Filmland. I have that issue.

Here’s more. I’ve got these issues of FMoF, too
