RIP Ray Charles

Breaking news, no links yet.

Ray Charles dead at 73.

Sad news indeed. I must say that I thought he was older than 73. Also, I’m glad that I had the chance to see him perform once.

That sucks. RIP Genius.

Forgot to remove the first sentence after I found a link.

Olsen! you beat me to it.
Nuts.
Great musician.
How many had him on their dead pool list?

*:`*

Oh it’s crying time again, you’re going to leave me,
I can see that far-away look in your eyes…

Damn you Olsen!

That lucky ol sun
aint got nuthin to do
but roll around heaven all day

Now this is a man who, for all his faults, left a positive legacy behind him.

He will indeed be missed.

I love Ray Charles and I’m very sad he’s gone. :frowning:

Drown In My Own Tears is just about my favorite blues song ( though the first version I heard was not the original, but rather the cover by Johnny Winter on his debut album ).

A true giant - RIP.

‘‘Music’s been around a long time, and there’s going to be music long after Ray Charles is dead,’’ - Ray Charles - Washington Post 1983.

I will always remember him as “Ray” from the Blues Brothers.
*Murph: Tell me a little about this electric piano, Ray.

Ray: Ah, you have a good eye, my man. That’s the best in the city Chicago.

Jake Blues: How much?

Ray: 2000 bucks and it’s yours. You can take it home with you. As a matter of fact, I’ll throw in the black keys for free! *
Now this is a guy that I would love to see honored on the 10 dollar bill…

R.I.P.

America has lost another one of its national treasures. He will be sorely missed. :frowning:
Rest in peace.

His version of “America the Beautiful” is one of the only patriotic songs which has ever moved me. The guy was just a stone cold genius as a composer and a performer. His legacy is huge. What a loss. :frowning:

GIGObuster I remember that movie very well. Did you see that the posters in Ray’s music store were hanging upside down? :o)
Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho’ long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time has stood still since we’ve been apart
(I can’t stop loving you)
I’ve made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times…

Rest in Peace, Ray. You’ll be missed.

Man, I don’t even like Blues. Ray Charles is the huge exception. He was amazing :frowning:

Say “Hi” to the sun for me Ray.

Hmmmm I believe the quote was…"I’ll throw in the WHITE keys for free…
Goodbye Brother Ray…
Who’s gonna be Number Three…

*I feel so bad;
Like a ball game on a rainy day.
Feel so bad children (Oh Lord, oh Lord)
Like a ball game on a rainy day

Well I already got my suitcase packed;
So I guess I’ll catch a train and
ride away…gonna ride away*

Flags will be at half mast around here, without a doubt.

(Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind…)

As Shakespeare once said, “Fuck.” He was the best goddamn blind man ever to tickle the ivories.

The last time I saw Ray was at a free concert in Chicago’s Grant Park, that was about 5 years ago. You could look around in the crowd and see people from 8 to 80 tapping there toe and swaying back and forth to Ray’s music. We’re going to miss you Ray.

And when my life is over,
remember when we were together,
we were alone and I was singing my song to you.
